New Salt Shaker.

Parking lot got slick as a hockey rink with the thaw, rain and flash freeze. Sick of slipping and more concerned about a customer mishap. Got this and a half ton of salt.

 

Careful there E. It may be coming sooner than ya think.

 

A 50/50 mixture of sand and salt works great on hockey rink parking lots...

 

Yes sir and the beauty of that is I literally live on top of a sand mine.

My dad has a '76 464 gasser. It has been old reliable since he purchased it in '77.

Have one like that I use for fertilizer spreading. One year we had a ton of freezing rain. All traffic stopped at the top of our hill including a dump truck. I was talking to the driver and asked what he was hauling. ROAD SALT going to a neighboring township. Hooked my spreader up and backed up to his coal shoot and filled the spreader and did the whole hill and all my driveways. Make sure you keep it washed out real good.

 

If you have good access to sand and can keep it dry it’s best used without salt. My neighbor has a plow rout and treats parking lots. He gets his sand in the summer and keep is it under cover. As I’m sure you well know salt destroys everything in short order.

 

'Round these parts, we mix limestone "dust" or "antiskid" with salt for traction.

I've been throwing my ashes on the driveway. It worked good but its messy.
I get a ton of wood shavings from the lathe. That works good for traction also

 

That's actually an Allis Chalmers 160. 3 cyl Perkins Diesel.

For sure, real intended use is for food plots etc.

I'll dig and pile up 20-30 yards of sand and cover it this summer. I don't normally have issues here, but it rained and the temp dropped 20 degrees in 4 hours. I hate salt, but it was necessary this time. I see the damage to cars & equipment every day in my shop.

 

You know something? I'll betcha if you were to spread salt over fresh cut wood, it would draw out the moisture quickly.

 

Yep, that's why seasoned wood is so expensive. If I spread salt over all my wood it would be cheaper to heat with NG. Turns out salt is a bit spendy this year.

 

Hey, it works on hay...so why not?!
Plus the wood will be pre-salted, so just add an aluminum can to the fire, almost like built in creosote destroyer! Can charge extra for that, right?!

So now we're really seasoning our wood.
