What do y'all use to clean the carburetor and/or old gas out of your chainsaw? I'm mainly worried about ethanol in the carb, I've had it cleaned out and tuned before and I'd like to avoid that this year. I put it away as best I could last fall to avoid old fuel. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
I use seafoam to make myself feel better. Don't really know if it really works as I always dump old fuel in the burn barrel.
Sea Foam here too, but I don't run any E fuel in my small equipment. I mix Sea Foam in with my 2 stroke gas every can. Saws start & run every time, even after months in storage.
You can empty the fuel tank on the chainsaw then fill it with a small amount of engineered fuel like Moto Mix or VP 2 stroke fuel. Run the saw for a few minutes with the canned fuel then store the chainsaw. Pre mixed fuel is expensive but if you are only using it to winterize or store a chainsaw seasonally its not too bad. Its cheaper and easier than rebuilding carbs or replacing fuel lines.
I had luck with this product with my snowblower this year. Failed to summarize it last year as I usually do.
You can run Startron in your fuel all the time...it will clean existing buildup out and prevent new...with ethanol or not...I've been running it for quite a few years now already...they have a diesel formula too.
That is true. My chainsaws never need dumped, or cleared. Just weed eaters and other two strokes that I don't use that often. The stihl ts500i demo saw gets dumped every time. It can sit for months without use.
We run E free 93 octane in all the saws. Started mixing a little Seafoam in each tank, seems that have helped clean the carbs on the older saws...
I was gonna say the same thing, I use seafoam but not sure if it's actually helping Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
I think that's what got me in trouble last time I buy the highest octane I can Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Same here. But if the saws are going to be out of service for quite a while they always get drained and idled dry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
On Saturday I was hoping to take the KTM 950 for a ride, but it wouldn't start. Long story short - after four hours of draining the fuel tanks, fuel lines, both carbs into a white plastic 5 gallon bucket you would not believe what the fuel looked like. Granted the fuel was E5 87 octane and 5 months old, but there was a cloudy white gel that settled to the bottom of the bucket. It kind of looked like that gel that protects tadpoles in ponds. Lesson learned. Drain the fuel tanks, and run the engine dry if your not going to use up the fuel in three or more months. P.S. I did take the KTM out later that afternoon and it was an epic ride as always.
I mix 1 gallon at a time...and run through it quicker. Used in weadeaters...chainsaws...leaf blower and mini cultivator. I mix in seafoam to ever gallon batch....cuz ya never know when crappy weather is gonna shut you down. That way im always good !!! I store my equipment with full tanks over winter as well. I know there's a big debate over dry tanks or full tanks. Full has always worked for me ! I even use seafoam in my Kubota diesels. Never had a gel problem. It works...or I'm lucky lol ! On a side note....I use winter windshield washer fluid all year round too ! That way I never get caught forgetting ! There's nothing worse than needing something to work..and it doesn't. Ruins the whole day !
