So last week I scouted a job out. 20+ oaks, 60' tall or better, and 14" diameter or so. They were all killed by gypsy moths 2 years back. The property owner will help me (or ill help him) pull a few down near his outbuildings, then I'm on my own in 7acres of woods. However, these trees could shed dead bits. I have a lid to wear, but am not sure what other precautions would be wise. There are not a lot of big branch pieces on the ground, just twigs. Are there any other signs of disaster afoot? Sca
Peel off some bark and give the wood a few good ideas whacks with a sledgehammer. I'd think vibrations would shake free anything close to falling. Maybe? That, and have someone with you when you drop the trees.
