Thanks huskihl for all your help. I really appreciate it. I now am working on the next 372xp x-torq which has a scored piston and cylinder. So I just ordered a p/c kit and 2 carb rebuild kits (1 for spare).

The chain brake is also broken on it but I haven't opened up the case yet to pinpoint the problem. The 1st 372xp I worked on and got running had a broken chain brake band and I took one from a donor saw.

I also need to order a decomp valve.

That cylinder looks like it would clean up no issue.

I'll keep it as a spare for my buddy and clean it up. But right now I just want to get the saw back up and running. It will be used hard so I'd rather slap a new one in there. I ran my fingers through it and there was definitely some build up in there. When I did that to the 034 S cylinder it took a lot of elbow grease and patience. When I'm super bored I'll do it to this one heh heh.

Went to clean up some stuff and noticed the intake manifold is ripped where the clamp goes. I'll order a new one.

I'll take your comment with a grain of salt because that guy didn't even run the cylinder......so he doesn't even know if it's going to "flake" or if it will "perform".

Refusing to use any aftermarket parts is totally up to him. OEM doesn't automatically mean better and I have plenty examples of that working on my cars where OEM parts just suck and also instances where aftermarket parts are.......dare I say it.......better.

If you want to send me the $30, I'll order the oem kit. Thanks and have a nice day!

The oem piston/cylinder kit I found at $192 and does not include a gasket. Now you're over $200 and at some point it might not be worth it to repair the saw. Granted $50 may not make break the bank it's still money you can spend elsewhere....i.e. on paying someone the labor to do the work. The way these saws get treated in a commercial operation even oem equipment gets destroyed as can be seen in the fact that I have a blown up saw on my bench.

If I thought the saw was going to blow up with the Meteor parts I wouldn't put them in.

Oh wow look at how beautiful these OEM ports look on that cylinder I replaced.

Hey man… I haven’t had a lot of OPE time but I finally had a few minutes today to catch up on your threads.

It seems that you’re into those 372s… great! They’re nice saws. A few key points-
    1. Suspect bearing failure in most of the medium to high hour XTorqs with running issues. Not beating that topic to death so just take my word for it.
    2. Converting to OE is a great option if you have the parts around. Not necessary, though. Xtorqs are ok if tuned right and maintained.
    3. That guy above is Treemonkey. He has been into more saws that 99% of us on the forum. His opinions on aftermarket chainsaw parts are shared by most builders/fixers who have reputations to uphold in the actual tree or saw industry. I hear your point on AM car parts, but the difference is AM car parts are often from reputable companies (international and domestic) and have decades of production runs behind them. AM cylinders are a relatively new product and are, unfortunately, not vetted the same way. Your Meteor cylinder may run for hours, but OEM is *typically* a better product.
    4. AM parts are fine for non-critical locations (plastics, some hardware, etc.).

Thanks man good to see you!

    1. I remembered what you said about the crank wiggle test so I do that on every saw I touch! That said, I did it on the saw I looked at today which was a complete goner with holes in the case from the flywheel going off the rails.....and then I stripped it and split the case and spun the bearings........And the flywheel one was crunchy but not that bad in terms of movement......But if that had been a running saw it might have had a failure sooner rather than later for sure! It was a good experience to see that. I will remember what you said bearing failure.

    2. I'm trying to help out my buddy as much as possible. He is a small tree service and he needs his saws to be running. If I can save him a few bucks and still have the saw running I will try to do that. Luckily I now have 2 donor saws for me to help fix his other saws....although my original donor saw can now be rebuilt given the new donor saw. In this particular case it was a brand spanking new saw that had less than 1 hour on it because his workers used straight gasoline in it. I wanted to get it back to a "stock" 372xp x-torq.

    3. I'm all for people having opinions. Perhaps it was the manner in which he expressed his opinion that could be........improved. I appreciate everybody's experience for sure. I'll leave it at that.

    4. I get it....but for example paying $4 for a spline screw seems just ridiculous to me. That's just robbery.

Some nice positive experiences using Meteor and Hyway pistons and cylinders found here and also one or two negative messages.

    Meteor cylinders, whats the scoop?

I'll take some pics of the Meteor cylinder when I get it side by side with oem and compare and contrast. It will be a good learning experience.
