There’s a park behind my house. It has 4-5 dying ash trees. A crew came by in December 2020 and basically took off the canopy of one and left. I scrounged what I could…maybe a face cord. Fast forward 14 months and a (different) crew is taking down a few trees. I spoke to the guys, asked them if they wouldn’t mind leaving a bit behind. The guy asked if I wanted 12” or 16” lengths and I knew I was in business. Good thing because my saws are in the country Gonna give these guys a case of tall boys.
yeah truth is I don’t need much in the city. Just have a firepit and a neighbour with a pizza oven. But hey, who am i to turn away from free ash!
he shuts it down in winter, alas. For those interested they are running a trio of Stihls. 201, 261, 461 i told them i have the husqy equivalent of tge 261. And the guy said “i hate huskies”. i will still accept the free wood.
Got this much today. So they send one crew to top them. And chip the branches. Then another crew to take down the tree itself. This is what I got today. More coming Monday.
Nice score. Gotta love delivered free and cut to length! Haha! Never once have I had a conversation about saws with a tree guy where one brand wasn’t absolutely despised. Hey, I’m a husky guy but if the right stihl popped up I wouldn’t hesitate.
Nice thing is that with a wood fired pizza oven, irregular lengths of the wood isn't really an issue. Looks like fur the most part they are pretty consistent size. I'd think ash would be a great wood for a pizza stove.
My buddy with the oven orders firewood and they pretty much only deliver ash. $220 Canadian dollars per face cord. Delivered. So I figured a couple pizzas are in my future
The crew was back today. I was at the office and they left a nice pile while I was away. I think I have around 2/3rds of a cord, maybe more. Hard to tell. All I know is that it was free and 30 yards from my garage.
Agreed with others, nice score grandgourmand and make sure you give them your number. Never know, they may overlook the Huskys and give you a call when in the area again. I do agree with you on a preference for Husky saws, but also have a MS660 and a couple Makitas, 6421 that just got repaired and a 4300 that needs work.
