    They're heating 2 houses, right?
How many cords of wood does that come out to?

"Seasoned" logs...meh, same as the "seasoned" firewood most people sell
Yeah, 2 houses and 2 shops, 1 pretty big...I don't really know on the cords...I think he is just judging by how far into the pile they usually are by now...the wood is stacked in the "tractor bay" of an old wood corncrib building...basically it is a drive thru building that has "corncrib walls" and "corncrib attic"...if that makes any sense...here, like this

Thanks so much for sharing this information. So useful to me in helping me make my decision. Can you tell what brand outdoor gasification unit you & your FIL have & your decision to chose that brand? Thanks!:)

I thank for the above post, like I just posted to Lukem this kind of information is what I’m looking for to move forward in my decision to replace my 6048 with a outdoor gasification unit. I would also ask you if you could share any information on why your brother may have chosen the Heatmaster over Crown Royal or another brand? I’m certainly not sold on any one brand & am trying to gather information to help me make the best decision. Thanks!:)

I have a Heatmaster GS200. He has a Crown Royal...not sure of the model but probably equivalent to the 7400E in terms of capacity. I think this is winter #4 for mine and probably #8 or 9 for his. Both have been nearly trouble-free. I blew a fuse once and the damper plate needs cleaned every once in a while during mild weather. His tends to eat the ceramic nozzle and needs replaced every 3-4 years.

It really came down to pricing and dealer for me. I bought a unit that was "new" but 2 years old and got a smokin deal on it. Same thing for him, but much longer ago.

One of my cousins installed a new conventional boiler after i got my g400 installed, I'm heating almost 3 times Square footage as him but don't use 3 times the wood, not even close!
Shop is usually 60°, well insulated, house 75ish, very poorly insulation (old house with stacked lumber walls)
    About 5000sqft total

Didn't have an owb previous to shop so nothing really to compare it to

Well, honestly they referred to me quite a bit on the model/brand...and since I knew for a few years now that replacement was on the horizon I had been watching and reading about the different options out there...and after some time it became apparent to me that you just so very rarely hear of a HM owner that's not happy...that and when they upgraded to using an O2 sensor and full primary and secondary air control via stepper motors, I was totally sold on the G series...and we have a couple dealers in the area...also, superior warranty. HeatMasterSS
The only one advantage CR has in my mind is made in the USA...but I personally don't mind buying Canadian products either so no real issue there...

Indeed it is. I’m in the northern Pocono mountains not to far from Scranton.

That's what I really want (storage) . I believe that's where you can maximize efficiency. With your boiler flat out, charging 1000 gallons for ?? 6-7 ? Hours. Imagining coasting for several days (in milder temps) with no tending.
I might even entertain the idea of non heating season domestic hot water. :D

    Just thinking out loud.
Could you circulate hot water to the house for a while for instant hot water heat then as the house is satisfied, transition over to the storage tanks for later?
Or maybe there would be enough capacity to do both at the same time?
Was just thinking long low burn times

I like to look at this link from another site to see what’s going on with his system.

Apparently it doesn’t work as a hyperlink. Gotta cut and paste it into your browser.
