Why are chainsaw fasteners referred to as spline? I thought spline meant 12 point and every screw I've ever seen is a 6-point T-27 (or smaller) on the limited Stihls and Huskys I've worked on. I thought spline fasteners are basically 3 squares laid over each other. I'm getting annoyed that I have to purchase individual "spline" screws for whatever saw I'm working on and want to buy an assorted set. Does Stihl offer something like this? There must be some sort of a kit they offer for dealers who perform repairs, no?

I always thought “splined” in this context meant the locking splines on the inside of the head that prevent them from rattling loose
