So we get "calls" via active 911 app. This is generally on point, but there seem to be time delays. And, that app does not update with details as the become available. We dont have pagers anymore, so between call (out and about or sound asleep) and hopping in the apparatus, I dont get any updates: status of the incident, or call canceled. A friend offered me a base unit for my vehicle, but that does me no good whilst getting dressed, tossing footwear on etc. We've decided that neither of us wants to hear the scanner going all the time at home....not that I'm not fascinated, but we value our quiet and solitude. Broadcastify app is cool, but there is a 30 second delay when starting the app. When things are happening, 30 seconds is a very long time. So, I think I am looking for a scanner, hand held, digital I'd imagine, something new enough to be able to find batteries.... nothing complicated: turn it on and hear updates as I go. Thanks! lot of handheld scanners out there. Just have to make sure it can recieve the frequencies you need . some are crystal controlled, other are digital selection of various ranges.

Seems like I remember hearing that the digital radios may not be as sensitive in receiving ....but probably a moot point
