    Hello!

Wood burning novice here trying to work through learning my new Absolute Steel (Big thanks to Oldhippie for the great messages) without suffering with too much analysis paralysis. One question I have is how the read the attached thermometer. Attached are two photos (Example A and Example B), just wondering what is the right way to read them.

    Thanks!

I hate to say, there is a lot of variance with magnetic devices, and while I have two on my stove, I use a thermal IR gun to keep tabs on their accuracy. One of mine is spot on, another reads about 30’ cooler. That is what I suggest you do, figure out what yours reads, then plan accordingly. Also, distance above stove top factors in too on single wall stove pipe.

congrats on your Stove. I love my IS from them.

I have same thermometer in a probe. 600 is 600, same with 800. The dot in between 600 and 800 is 700. That’s how I read mine.

Example B is correct...as long as the calibration is accurate.

I have my thermometer situated on the stove top above where the catalyst is seated and I use it as a rough guide.
Otherwise I poke my head out the door to see what the smoke stack is doing.
