So about to load up and go tackle this nice size tree. I have hired a buddy who is a handy saw guy and tree feeler by trade. She has a lean I don’t like but we will get the job done. Will update photos this evening!
Lots of work and wood there. Nice to work with someone who has more experience and learn. Mykidsdadd we usually refer to the DBH for tree sizing on here. Thats the Diameter at Breast Height or about 4.5' off the ground. It can give you a good idea of a standing trees yield in terms of cordage. A 22" DBH tree will yield a cord, 16" a half cord. Thats harvesting down to 4". Have fun and works safe!
Not bad. I think that is close to 27" diameter so not that big of a tree. Lots of good wood will be had though.
Well..... got to the house. She wasn’t exactly forthcoming with all the info.... tree was rotted all the way to the ground pretty much and was in super tight quarters regarding the homes and vehicles on the street. Not much wood left in it really so I declined to do it. Didn’t feel safe. Guess I will get after some oak needs split at the house ! That’s what I wanted to do anyhow today.
Yeah, I know my limits and have no shame in admitting them ! If it was in a field I would have done it but a hollow tree is too unpredictable in a neighborhood for me.
