Hello Boston has declared a snow Emergency starting at 9 PM - This is on par with the Blizzard of 78 when the roads were closed for 5 days except for emergency vehicles! Got the the LT1K ready and a new Snow Joe for the walkway. I also line up the cars on one side of the driveway so that I can easily snow blow the rest. Does anyone else do this?
I'm going to fire up the generator during lunch, beyond that status quo for me. The snow amounts don't really phase me as they won't cause power outages, the winds however....I keep plenty of food on hand same for gas for the snowblower and generator. I'll ride it out and watch from inside as it comes down, and hopefully get most of the clean up done Saturday night as I have to work first thing Sunday.
Yeah, snowing here now (RI). Looking at 5-6" today and 16" + tomorrow. Going out in a little bit to fill up on gasoline for the generator, and may be doing a bit of smoking food this weekend (have an electric stove that the generator can only power one burner on). Otherwise all is boring here. I put the autos in the back yard, backed up against the driveway. Makes it easy to blow the entire driveway, then knock the snow off the cars and pull onto a clean driveway.
We park our cars off to the side. I snowblow the area where we normally park, then move the vehicles there. Lots of other prep, in the severe weather thread. Severe Weather ?
Extra beer , plenty of food .....then hurry up and wait. I too will park cars off to the side tonight so snowblowing and /or plowing is easier Really bummed no firewood or milling in near future, except keeping the stove going. Will be a good day to hide out in the shop and catch up on a few things. Have to see where this goes.
My SIL dropped off several knives that I'll sharpen for her tomorrow. I have a Lansky sharpening kit, with multiple grit stones. It does a decent job with just a few passes.
Just came in from re enforcing my empty wood lean-to s . If we get that much snow I don't want to see my wood storage destroyed. Have enough wood in house for the week.
The storm is supposed to go about 40 miles south of us. I have plenty of beer in case it changes course.
I have so much to do on getting the new shop air setup going! I just wired in the 240 VAC 50 amp outlet and power cord. Now I have to find some 4” x 4” steel base plates to properly distribute the weight over the vibration pads before bolting them to the concrete floor. Then I have to find some bronze 3/4” male pipe thread to female 3/8” NPT threads and hoses for the 4 air drops. I do have one 3/8” - 50 foot hose reel and looking for a 1/2” hose for the blasting cabinet and maybe 2 - 25’ coiled cords for the othe 2 air drops. Does anyone have coiled air cords? How do you like them?
The storm is supposed to go about 40 miles east of us. We are supposed to get a dusting to an inch. The wind however is a different story. We will be OK as long as the power stays on, if not we will snuggle a little closer to the fireplace insert. Just need to bring in some Locust for those sub zero temps the weatherman is predicting.
My big prep for the storm? I put a cover on my windshield to make it super easy to clear off the snow. Also park the truck in a certain spot. I also sanded a few icy spots so the snow blower can get traction on slopes. Other than that, nothing special.
Just another winter day in New England. All errands already run during the week and tractor is fueled up and ready to go. Might clean the deck off once in the afternoon, otherwise just kick back, watch it snow, and deal with the clean up tomorrow after it's over.
Snowing here and windy. Half the yard is bare grass and the other half has it all with 2 foot drifts. Good day to work in the shop today.
I'm guessing that one in NH is from a MV accident an not the weather. Later on, it will be a different story as the winds kick up
Snowing pretty steady here but I have no idea how much snow we have. ?? Some places are bare in the yard and my SUV is absolutely clean (parked in the gap between the house and garage and the wind really whips through there). So just like others have said, somewhere between 2" and 2' but it is not even close to 50/50 so no idea what has fallen. More than enough, in enough places to have to blow it out but not today as doing that in high wind is a fool's errand. Snow blowing is already nearly a fool's errand anyway, never mind having to do the same spot twice.... if anyone does not believe that, send me a photo, taken in July or August, of the very best snow blowing job you have ever done. My mud boots got tossed last fall unbeknownst to me as they were cracked. Too bad. Now the highest boots I have are only about 1 foot tall, and there is at least 2' in front of the garage doors. Now my wife threw my boots out without telling me, and by happenstance she has boots that go up past her knees. I think there may be a solution to this problem and I feel I am close to what it may be.......
