I'm the first to handle this MS460, after a fire. Carbide chain, roof cutting "shield" on the bar (so we dont cut the rafters clean throug).
But my inspection revealed a lot of black oil. (Pics).
The bar oil is clean in the reservoir.
I assume this black oil is just leftover crap (ash, asphalt shingle remains) from the chain & cover. It just seemed like there was a lot of it!
Any similar experiences, and recomended maintenance? I didnt pull the saw apart and give it a good cleaning, but probably could.

I would think it's just a slurry of bar oil and whatever was being cut. So burned/charred dust, shingle tar etc.

How does the chain look, dry ? wet ? I would look at the bar first. It looks to me as if the oil isn't making it around the bar.

What Jason said, that’s normal. You can dump yellow oil in a chainsaw and pizzrev it in the garage and it will run down the saw looking black

It was used for cutting a roof open a couple days ago. Among other things charred as well I'd imagine.
Chain was very wet, if there is an adjustable oiler it must be turned well up.

For the most part fire saws don't cut anything thick so for the amount of run time little wood roof ect is cut so the chips really aren't there to scrub the chain clean. That along with test runs means they become a sloppy mess. It doesn't take much to turn the oil black.
