blacksmith and I removed a dandy dead red maple on Sunday. Probably the biggest red maple I've ever taken down, standing close to 65 feet and the codominant trunk was around 40" across at the base. There were service lines to the house pretty close to the tree, so I had to go up and piece a few limbs out of the bigger co-dom, and I rigged the back leaning trunk at the 40' mark to pull over. Enjoy the pics....been a while since I posted any removal work.
You are quite the monkey Scotty Overkill and great action shots. Would love to see you in action someday.
We would love to hang out with you as well! Try to make it to a GTG with us this summer, we will be at Dennys this spring. You will have a blast and the food/comdaderie is second to none!
Nice job, guys! After the face cut, it looks like you performed a plunge cut to set the hinge. Am I seeing that right?
Wow, that is huge for a red maple! Good job Scotty Overkill and blacksmith Joe. Looking forward to seeing you two great guys in 3 months.
Nice work guys! Soft maple are usually a pain in the toe to remove. At least it wasn’t a silver with 4 more spars to remove.
Yes sir, I always do the bore cut method, and I prefer doing a humbolt face cut most of the time but this instance was ideal for a standard face. This, being a dead tree with opposite leans, was an ideal candidate for the bore cut.
