blacksmith and I removed a dandy dead red maple on Sunday. Probably the biggest red maple I've ever taken down, standing close to 65 feet and the codominant trunk was around 40" across at the base. There were service lines to the house pretty close to the tree, so I had to go up and piece a few limbs out of the bigger co-dom, and I rigged the back leaning trunk at the 40' mark to pull over.

Enjoy the pics....been a while since I posted any removal work.

    Nice job, guys!

After the face cut, it looks like you performed a plunge cut to set the hinge. Am I seeing that right?

Nice work and great action pictures. What’s the box attached on the side of the tree?

Nice work guys! Soft maple are usually a pain in the toe to remove. At least it wasn’t a silver with 4 more spars to remove.

Yes sir, I always do the bore cut method, and I prefer doing a humbolt face cut most of the time but this instance was ideal for a standard face.

This, being a dead tree with opposite leans, was an ideal candidate for the bore cut.

It was a dandy red. I've done many silvers this size and much bigger, but this was the biggest red.
