No, if she is in that spot she is working on her tan. She’ll likes if you rub her tummy, but is in more of a comatose state to care too much.

I went and got 5 trunk loads in the Corolla. However, a neighbor came and unloaded two of them from me without asking. My Friends across the street have a camera because they keep getting tools stolen, and they figured out who it was. Now I have a “keeping wood” sign up ala buZZsaw BRAD , though mine is just sharpy on cardboard.

You know, I didn’t notice much of the red oak smell on these loads. Maybe it was too cold for the smell to develop? It didn’t get above freezing here today, which is somewhat rare around here.
I got the rest of the load back from the neighbor . He was somewhat grateful, when I told him that it would be like burning wet cardboard for a couple few years yet. He was older so I offered him some dry wood in exchange, but he didn’t take me up on it.
Total haul for the day (5 trunk-fulls). I did move it around back after I took this shot just to avoid any more mix-ups. I figure if I am going to wait three years for this to be ready to burn, I better get a fair amount to make it worth the wait.

 

I did some whacking and stacking today, but mostly moving some stacks around into “staging” or “on deck.” All the lighter colored wood in front is red oak from a couple weeks ago.

 

Not a huge score, but not bad for a storm blow-down in a storm ~6 months ago. A tree service broke it up somewhat and just left it. Finally got over to it. I believe it's ash. And it always seems like more before CSS. A whole hatch of logs ends up being only 5'x3' of splits.

At first I was skeptical… but then I realized locust payday! That is enough barkless locust to make buZZsaw BRAD proud or jealous or both. I just got one trunk load today, but I’ll be back homeowners willing. It was pretty well cut to 16” too.

 

Looking great! Split that cedar into kindling and it’ll get that locust rolling in a hurry

 

Load number 2 of 6? I think 6 trunk loads is about a cord for me, but I could be off. I used the isocore to quarter these rounds. I think like the Hoover dam they have hardened over time.

 

BL sure does get "petrified" as it ages. A term Eric VW used recently that fits it to a T. I love finding abandoned "clean up" logs long forgotten and partly buried. A bit messy but a few rains and they clean up. Ive gone to future scores and debarked trees that are off the ground. Nice and clean when i harvest.

Hopefully I’m going back for a couple more loads today. I’ll take your tip and debark as much as I can now.
I’m sort of afraid they’ll turn off the spigot, but I pulled some poison ivy for them and plan on leaving a tidy split stack for their fireplace.

That bark adds up fast. If i can ill remove and leave at the score. I bucked a bunch of BL smalls in my PA yesterday and its now carpeted with the stuff. Once it settles and crushes, makes a nice mud barrier.

Even though I’ve read and admired this thread before, when I saw it again just now I thought it was for FHC-ers that had too many cars. My wife and I have a total of four registered motor vehicles, so I was about to chime in! The lesson, as always, is that I’m a bozo.

 

Just put some logs in each of the vehicles and you are good to chime in.

i actually thought the same thing about the thread until Midwinter set me straight, via demonstration, a few years ago.

 

Picked up some red maple a couple blocks over.. if I have one good thing to say about yard trees, it is.. It’ll burn better than snow balls. It was a lot of work splitting it up into manageable chunks especially compared to my recent red oak or locust scores for that matter.
I’ll probably go after the main stem tomorrow. That’s what you guys call the trunk, right?

Get that trunk in the trunk! Yard trees can be a PITA to process with all the knots. Hopefully your saw doesnt find any nails!

 

Good job. Haul it anyway you can. Maybe the trunk won't be as hard to split. Can always noodle it.
