Cold Trigger Finger I bet there are a lot of places that claim Paul Bunyan, right?

Wow, someone speaking common sense. Next thing you know some weather channel will be naming snowstorms like it was a hurricane.

10* with -2 wind chill. That's plenty cold enough for me.

Boiler still has a fair amount of yesterday's ash and maple in there. I'll load it up for another 10* night later this afternoon.

When I woke up around 2:30am, I added wood (red oak) to both the Buck 91 and Fire Chief. The Fire Chief was more hungry than the Buck. I’ll need to learn it’s habits. First fire of the winter. It was almost out this morning.

I agree and don't see them as a negative in any way. When my coal bed goes down and I want more heat or to reload, I crack the ash pan door and insta-heat! They are usually at a point the stove won't go nuclear. Not having the ability to introduce heat from below would definitely change the situation though.

Currently 32 out and getting a mix bag of rain/snow/sleet. Was 78 inside this morning when I woke. Guess I over estimated the temp drop. I put one piece of mulberry and one red oak on before I left.

I had a Sunday morning paper route when I was a kid and I rode my bike to make deliveries and collect the money all year. It wasn't unusual to see temps around -20 or lower when I headed out. In the 3 years I had the paper route my mom only took me around once to make deliveries on a Sunday morning. Thermometer that day said -40. This was all in the days before wind chill was invented:thumbs::shiver::shiver:

Its warming up good on the other side of the mountains and chinooking. I was going to go ice fishing for lake trout there today but the wind gusts are expected to be over 62 miles per hour. No Thanks! I dont need to go survival ice fishing today. In the mountains where I live the winds are calm and the snow is gently falling. Its warmed up over night to -11c/12f with a mix of larch and fir in the box.

It seemed to be working really good, they put more wood in when we were eating and it was putting out some heat!

23 dropping fast towards 10. Black birch coals throwing enough heat for now, and I’ll be reloading at bedtime with some dead barkless black locust for the overnight burn.

Looks like my kind of place! There is a bar up here by me that looks very similar. All walks of life belly up to that bar. Everything from Elk and Moose hunters, to bachelorette parties. It’s great people watching.

About 20, dropping into the teens. Loading seasoned ash and some close to punky maple, and plenty of it.

On cold nights my boiler is like my pickup pulling a trailer. Under load it really sucks it up
