Yeah. I try and take one or two trips a year with it. Most trips are 4 to 8 weeks long. Last fall I drove the length of the Blue Ridge Parkway and went up to CT to visit my Dad, and came back through the mountains of WV. The year before that, was a five month trip up the West Coast and the Mt. Hood, Mt, Shasta area, and back through Colorado and Missouri. You never really know how long these kind of trips will last. It depends on the moment and who you meet along the way. Slow travel...
I see it's colder in Bemidge Minnesota today than it is here. It's +4° but it's blowing 10 to 15 . White spruce in the stove. Last night's load of 2 rounds of white spruce and 2 splits of aspen lasted a full 8 hours + because it's so warm.

Below zero temps heading our way tomorrow and Friday. For some here that isn’t noteworthy. For this area… that’s damm cold! Just brought up an ample supply of locust, cherry, beech and hickory. I say “bring it!”
I let the Buckstove 91 insert die out yesterday since it got up to 50’. Plus, I wanted to save what wood I had left stored here to use over the next two nights as were expecting lows of 6’ tonight and 2’ tomorrow. Winds NNW 14 mph. I’m trying a new experiment. Haven’t done this yet this winter since having the insert installed … I just started a fire in the Fire Chief wood furnace in the basement. I want to see how they both do at the same time. The Buck stove does well but getting heat to the other side of the house is a challenge. The Fire Chief is connected into my duct work with a fan. Burning oak. I did a search and didn’t find any older posts on a Fire Chief. Anyone have any experience? My parents had it installed about 10 years ago. I’ve used it sparingly since we moved in 2 years ago. update: forgot to mention, inside temp was 71’ when I fired up both stoves. Now 76’. Stoked both and hitting the rack.
45 when I got home at 5:30. Starting to drop now and heading for teens. Have a small fire going and some oak, ash, hickory and cherry in by the stove.
I did my online temp conversion and thats 26c! My wife complains when I get the house over about 24c/75f. The stove/rec room is a different story which I enjoy it warm but we tend to like the bedrooms cool for sleeping and the rest of the house at about 22c/71f.
I like to keep my house @ 68f and the bedrooms @ 64f. Too many years as a diesel mechanic working outside all day in freezing temps. Mike in Okla
You get chinooks there hey? Interesting. Were in the mountains but drive east half an hour and we get into southern Alberta with big time chinooks at times. The winds there are unbelievable at times. -15c/5f right now with a medium load of larch in the stove until the bedtime load.
20F here with a low of 15 predicted, still a bit breezy, but feels way better than 29 with the heavy wind did. Oak in both the boiler & shop stove. 74 iat.
1 out right now, went out to the bar for berger night, they got a wood stove in! They loaded it up with barkless elm, got a few drinks. Going to load the OWB with red oak when we get home. Tell then, I am loading up on Cap and Pepsi Miss Redneck is happily playing the coin pusher.
