A 500i pulls a 32-36” bar just fine except for it being a bit floppy, actually a 25-28” is minimum for a 500 my opinion because a 462 will run with or out cut it up to 25-28”.

I realize a 261 won’t be ultra fast with a 20” 3/8 on it but at least it’s still within the design of the saw. I don’t have one but have had 3 026’s and while not lightning fast it will pull a 20” 3/8 in the birch, ash and maple mix we used to buy for firewood when I was a kid.

New MS261cm. 20” bar, 3/8” 0.050 33 RM 72 chain new rim sprocket and double spikes.

Was a bit boggy on first tank dealer fuel, somewhat of a concerning bog actually. Picked up significantly and noticeably on second tank. Noodled a 28” dia. 16” long round into quarters very well after that as a test. Can’t wait to feed it some more soon!

Saw is awesome and the bar is awesome. I am in the camp that your bar/chain is too much for that saw in hardwood. Hopefully, your wood is easier! Down the way, I would probably jack that saw up some with a muffler mod, at least. Great saw!
