With only 6 holidays a year, mlk day is one you get? Seems odd, but I've seen some weird things that companies do. I'll still contend that most people have to work on mlk day.
In the e paper tonight. Fishermen eager for central Maine smelt camps to open - CentralMaine.com This about Bakers camps which are further down the road in Pittston. It is a good read if you have the time.
Birthday Greeting Knothead One of the few times I actually get to wish someone happy birthday on the same day the others do!
I worked every single one when I worked, and drove for a living for much of those years. What I know is that the retail years sales were high and stores were busy, the driving years there was extra traffic everywhere. I think alot of parents take off kids school holidays? To be honest I don't know other than there are more gov't , bank, and school employees/parents than I ever realized.
I was commenting on "only bankers and government jobs get the day off". I agree, most people probably don't. But then again, the ski slopes around here are jamb packed with people that have that day off.
Like I said, it has only been the last couple of years I've had that day off and I've worked in manufacturing for around 35 years. Maybe the switch had to do with the company's diversity policy. Maybe it was a shift in the State's observance in 2020 (it didn't used to be MLK day - in NH it was Civil Rights Day).
Caffeine! I didn’t want to get out of bed this morning. But I did drag myself out at 5:50. Let the Mutleys out, filled Wood Gun boiler, and now vegging.
I built a fire in the shop before bed last night and it was warm enough to paint my heater this morning. Pressure test was OK. Going to get my neighbor's tractor and move it from the shop to the garage this evening and be done with this project.
