Sorry, this is not a great video (more bull than facts and information), but it will give you the idea; a pellet stove that can also burn cordwood. Aduro Hybrid - UK - YouTube Unfortunately these are not for sale in the US but maybe some company might start producing some?
I like the idea of starting a fire with pellets. Betting there’s a lot of issues to work out tho. That flame hopper would fill up with ash fast
Never mind me...just trying something to make the above vid work on my phone...having issues here Ok, got it... pretty cool idea...be interesting to see if it takes off (pun intended )
That's the idea. Not sure I'd use that but the idea of both firewood and pellets sounds good. It would just have to be on a much larger scale though. Someone might latch onto the idea and improve on it.
4500 US dollars Neat idea. I could see the woman using this in her electric heat condo. Not at that money tho. She’s cheap.
I like the idea, but i think I'd rather just have 2 separate units. I have thought about putting a pellet stove (or the FV) in the living room (main level) to supplement the wood stove in the basement or to take the chill off in shoulder season.
I would hope there’s a thermostat that shuts off the pellets at a certain temp. Otherwise yeah, you’ll be feeding it sticks all night.
Back when I used to heat with a central gas heater, the thermostat started a fire many times a day when I wasn’t home
Found the Aduro for sale in the UK. No real description besides it’s a dry use sponge. Found this product also from the UK. Also dry use. Must be close. Still doesn’t say what it’s made from but it mentioned perfecting wire wool to make it. How to Easily Clean the Glass on Your Wood Burner ⋆ handycrowd.com
Not a real redesign but different fuel. I swiped err I mean appropriated 5 gallons of pellets we make at work and gave to a guy that has a pellet burner just to see how they would work in place of wood pellets. At least in his stove these wheat bran pellets ran without a problem. I'd need to check but back about 5 years ago I checked prices and our bran pellets were running less than half price of what the wood ones were. I wonder btu wise how they would compare?
Some good, some so-so reviews on Amazon: I've never needed anything more than a damp paper towel to wipe of a foggy greyish haze off the glass - if I remember to when I shovel out ashes. Handy with pellet burners ?
Where I work, we have 2 durum mills and a wheat mill. We also invested in a pelletizer, which adds a binder and high pressure to press the bran that comes off the outside of grain when making semolina and flour into dies and it extrudes the pellets pictured above. They are sold as animal feed. Typically our pellets are contract purchased 6 months ahead of time by either a semi load or rail car load. Some mills don't have the pelletizer like we do and sell it raw and it is similar to the fluff sawdust off of a circular saw. I work at Dakota Growers Pasta Company in Carrington ND, and we ship pellets across the entire country.
