What would you offer for a Husky 371?

That looks rough, switch doesn’t work, gas leak that I’m assuming is the vent, because of where it’s coming from. Some pieces of cylinder fins missing on the plug wire corner. Starts up fine and compression feels decent. Needs a new handle on the rope and a sprocket.

 

It doesn’t look like anyone ever cleaned air filter. Pics to come.

 

Does the handle have to come off to get at the switch? It’s not in the carb box.

 

Dang, that has been rode hard and put away wet. I personally wouldn’t pay much, low 200’s. And for me it would have to go through a full split case/fresh powder resto, so maybe it stops at 2 with the cylinder damage. Runable yes, but if doing a full redo, that wouldn’t fly. Just my .02.

 

I'd tackle it but at a low entry cost... I'm with The WW above. I'd do a full teardown with bearings, seals, and rubber all the way through. That's me and I would do it just to have a 70cc saw that I wouldn't use all that much. Looks like you already have some bigger saws so is it more for the fun of doing it? I just put close to $200 in parts into the 357 I rebuilt. And that made it a reliable running firewood saw, not a show off.

I know you hate to insult the owner when making an offer, but a saw that old will need some loving to get it back to where it needs to be. Lot's of owners see their stuff as gold plated even though they may have well gotten their money out of it.

 

That thing looks pretty whooped...it looks like its been a very long time since its received anything that could be construed as "maintenance"...I personally wouldn't even give $200 for it...

 

At what point do you put money invested towards a new saw? That's the question I've had to ask myself recently.

 

I’d only be at $100 if it runs. Something probably caused it to be shelved if they’ve robbed a few parts off it

 

My max would be about $0.79, tax included. In other words, unless a person has nothing better to do with their time, it would be a hard pass. Plenty of nicer saws out there to be had.

 

Think of it in car guy terms, this is similar to a 1969 Chevy Camaro(or enter your desired make/model here) to Husky guys. A rare-ish sought after model that some would enjoy doing a full frame off restoration.

 

i think you can get it if you pul the floor of the carb box. Pull the carb to get the floor off.
I’m with huskihl in $100 zip code.
I generally don’t roam from that area anyway for any used saw. Unless it’s less than that.

 

Thanks for the feedback. He asked for 200 and I didn’t counter offer. If I fixed it I don’t think I’d use it, since I already have a cherry 371 and 3 other 70cc saws. That’s 200 that could go for a cherry 262, or 400.

 

Parts saw it is pretty obvious that it is well used the cylinder fins broke off could be somebody (Butcher) trying to clearance for the plug wire all you need to do is radius the top fin those stop switches just pop out from the handle unless it is the older style with only one wire to it than you have to disassemble a little to get at the screw that holds the grounding tab that is a 100.00 saw in that shape it just needs TLC you know (TONS OF LABOR AND CURRENCY) I have fixed up a lot of old saws that meant something to people "AKA" collector car mentality as The wood wolverine mentioned in his post JB

 

that would be $25-$50 around my hood.

Those did sell for listed price, so if y'all are selling @ $50, you're missing out.

 

I've been wanting a 70cc saw, but guys want way too much for basketcase saws.

I recently talked to a guy who had a 272 with some unknown issues that would require additional parts and labor. It took him weeks to actually put a price on it, then decided he needed at least $400 for it.

Street price on a brand new state of the art 572xp is $9xx.

Oof, that's really tempting. I had delayed myself thinking about maybe doing the 500i when they bring the heated handle version here. But that's about half of a 500i with the arctic kit.
