When I first found this forum I wondered about the name. Hoarding does have a bit of a negative reputation at times. Now granted this was an opinion based on absolutely no facts. I suppose I could have asked why it was called that but I didn't. Now I think I am beginning to understand. I've cut wood for several years just enough to get me through the next season. I never really enjoyed the work. This year for some reason I've cut enough for next season and probably half of the season after that and I don't want to stop. I'm not sure what I'll do when I run out of room for stacks. I've even begun cutting and splitting pine for the neighbors for campfire wood. Should I get help for the early stages of this possible addiction? I suppose this forum could be considered a support group but not sure it will help.

You speak as though firewood hoarding is a problem of some kind rather than a well regarded lifestyle!

Karl, embrace it my brother... The same happened to me. I always did one year ahead but when we moved deeper into the woods, it became two years. Now I'm just about on a 3 year plan. I pick and choose my processing times to avoid extreme heat, extreme cold, and bugs. Spring and fall I go to full time during the best parts of the days, fall being my favorite.

Oh yeah, this forum will help! Folks here will help you get past that unsure feeling about hoarding, help you figure out how to make more room (go up), help you figure out how to hoard more efficiently (go on Karl, buy that bigger saw, that utv, that trailer, that splitter...) and help you learn to educate others so they don't give you the crazy look (as much).... And prescribe you some good therapy techniques to work through this issue, which is cutting and splitting some more good firewood!

No risk of catching flurona at the wood pile and no downside to having 5-10yrs of firewood. Hell it can even help fund chainsaw hoarding.

Get on the 3yr plan, Karl. Nothing like throwing a split on a minimal bed of coals, and watch the flames follow in short order.

I hope you have room to stack 3yrs worth of splits.

Thinking about buying another saw yet? Or maybe a splitter? Or utility trailer, tractor, extra gas cans and saw related tools? Did I mention buying another two saws yet? :smoke:

    We're here to help!

Nobody bats an eye at somebody who puts a little away every week into his savings account, eventually sitting on a nice nugget. “Hoarding” wood should be no different ;)

Oh just wait till they require you to report your firewood and treat it as a taxable item/investment. Bahahahahaha

You are not a true hoarder until people start asking you sarcastically if you think you have enough firewood.

Yep. That's it. That's the stage that's set. When you are known for your wood, then you are there.

We had a horrible ice storm some 15 or so years ago, took a big portion of a massive pine at the house. I went to Walmart and bought a $100.00 Poulan saw and got to work. I haven’t stopped since, I was hooked. Prior to that had never ran a saw to speak of. I would hate to actually figure what I have invested now. welcome to the club- you are in good company!

I say just go with this addiction! Lots of others we could have that would be way more expensive.
