That's a good one. After grabbing the empty garbage can from the end of the driveway and shoveling out the mailbox yesterday, I built a fire in the NC-30 and enjoyed some TV in the basement for a couple of hours! Nice and even managed to get a sore neck from dozing off briefly.....
Got up early and started wrestling PEX into position for garage heat. 3/4" stuff is stiffer than I remember. Got a little done but then had to start on the day job. One of the radiators I bought had a bad section in it so I ended up taking it mostly apart. I weighed that one section and it was 25lbs...the whole radiator must be just over 500. No wonder we were struggling picking it up into the truck.
Job completed! Turning out to be a nice day. Some sunshine, light wind (more than a breeze) and mild temps. We're in the single digits now!
Getting some dirt work done in the swamp while there is a frozen crust to drive on...still cold, but warming up due to the bright sun...and its making the fill dirt greasy too!
You can always hope. However those bones of yours knows that the worse is yet to come. Last 3 weeks of January are usually the worst of winter. We are getting an artic blast today. sub zero temps, and highs in the single numbers. That is exceptional for us, but it happens. At least we have some snow cover so the plants will go through it fairly well. I can hardly breath outside. My COPD doesn't like it at all. Face mask does help. So does limited exposure. I can't make it back from the mail box now, so I have to wait for someone to check it for me. I really need to keep my electric mobility chair inside so I can get out better.
-16 when I got out in Fort Kent at 8:30 this morning, -14 when I got to Caribou. -38 wind chill. Instant ice cream headache.
Heard today southern pine beetle has made its way to New Hampshire and way southern Maine. It can’t survive a -5 degree night though so I’m guessing today did them in.
Grandfather was admitted to hospital the other day and was taken off life support today. I guess now it's just a waiting game, sounds like he's expected to last longer in that state than grandmother did.
Yeah, I heard they were in southern Maine but hadn't heard they were here in NH yet. EAB finally hit my county last year and I saw that NH has stopped regulating the movement of ash timber within the state now that EAB has made it this far north (there is still a ban on untreated firewood coming into the state). Was it a natural progression of EAB...or was it due to so many nitwits that can't follow simple rules and still bring firewood in from out of state? Who knows? Regardless, sadly it is here as I'm sure oak wilt and others will be eventually.
Don’t know how the EAB migrated but we first got it 2020 in the far north west corner of the state, came in from Quebec. Then it was found in like the Lebanon area out of New Hampshire. So far I haven’t heard anything about it spreading too far but I’m sure it has.
