On Stihl, I cut using a 290 with 16" bar for many years and cut up to 30-32" diameter trees with no problems. I passed that saw on to ReelFaster and he is very happy with it. I now have the pro 261 and love it. So these saws can and will last for many trouble free years. Good luck.
I'm an on the saw filer myself so I'm not overly concerned with how easy it is to change chains on a saw. However, I do usually clean and flip the bar every two or three sharpenings. I like doing that in the shop so air can be used to thoroughly clean things. I find this helps keep oil leaks from happening when everything is clean on all the bar and mating surfaces.
Sweet saw. I suggest now going back and also getting 500i, just because!!!! You bought a great saw, but somehow you will want another one….slightly bigger! Enjoy that saw.
Not yet, going to drop it off Wednesday. I'm sure he'll love using it. Especially compared to what he was using.
I am very pleased you got the 261, that was my initial thought. The Husky 550 is also probably a good choice. I think the Stihl 290/291 is too heavy. Also, you got a great case, I bought one for my ms400 and at $40, I thought it was well worth it because I paid that much for a square boxy type that is not as robust. And you got a hat!
Great decision Dpopps i got my 261 last summer and I absolutely love using it. It’s my go to saw and has no problem with 20” hard woods. You must have a good dealer, i didn’t get a hat with mine.
I didn't realize how heavy the other models I was considering till I seen the numbers on the store display. I'm thinking my dad will appreciate 2.5 lbs less. I also got a free 3pk of files. The chains where buy one get one.
I didn’t want to say anything about this, but he will think he’s in Heaven with this new saw. Might even cut wood when he doesn’t need to. Ya know, just for fun! The saw will gain noticeably after a dozen tanks of fuel. (which may take a good while) they are very efficient compared to anything he’s had.
