I'll try my best... The old saying is " What you do on New Year's Day, is what you'll do all year"... So I decided sitting in the house wasn't for me. It was about 70°, so I moved all the ash to the processing area Used the Echo 2511T and measure stick to mark the logs, and the Husky 55 to buck it. Got it all bucked and staged for the splitter We are going to stack it in some totes and burn it ourselves.
Had a few firsts Monday night... 1st time splitting ash... 1st time using the IBC totes Took about 1 1/2 hrs last night to fill that bin. It's the 330 gal size, measured to be about 1/3 cord. 40x45x36... Made a dent in the stack of rounds And we burned a few end cuts in the stove as another 1st. I hope to get more split tonight, will have to prepare another tote and stack it later...
Just wondering about how you cut part of the tote out. I always cut along the vertical bars and don't leave any horizontal bars sticking out to catch clothing/flesh on. What's the plan for the way you did it? Awesome inventory brother!
Same here. No horizontals... wood ain’t fallin’ out, but skin and sleeves will definitely get caught.
The plan was to get 4 conduit couplings and put the cut out back in, make a door, in case we use the totes for chunks and uglies. I did bump my elbow a time or 2, had my light coat on. I took the flap wheel and sanded the ends smooth. This was my first tote that I did...I'm learning
Yes, it was nice to process. Haven't checked the moisture on it, some was fairly light, can definitely tell the difference between those rounds and oak / hickory. Burned a few splits of it last night.......
I put the forks on the tractor last night, it handled the tote of ash ok...if we put oak or hickory in them, I think it will be too heavy. Then we got the rest of the ash rounds split and piled. Same pile, side view Got to prep some more totes to stack in Hope to start processing the holly we took down in April '21, tonight...
Prepped 3 totes today, they are the 330 gallon size, bigger than the first one we did. Cut the opening different on these. Is this better, Eric VW ? 40" compared to 48" The last of the ash...almost full The numbers on the big totes...so I'm calling it a full cord of ash ... I had some spoiled help late this evening...Miz Carol and Tigger...
After we got all the ash split and in totes, we split 2 holly trees from a previous tree job we did last May. Got a full tote + enough to finish the last tote of ash. We got 12 oak logs from this recent score, bucked and staged on the splitter. Made 84 rounds We split 51 rounds and got 1/3+ cord row in the shed We had a new customer come over Saturday morning. He got 1 row of 7-8 yr old oak and then we split enough of the oak rounds to get what he wanted for this load. They were so happy with the quality of our wood, they ordered a 1 cord trailer load... Got the last of the 18" oak rounds split Tossed them in the shed, our truck load from here will be delivered Tues morning Made tops and moved all the totes together. Even made a top for the wire baskets of chunks...
Seems like our inventory is leaving the woodyard, instead of staying in the sheds...lol... Had a few days off, so we got 5 loads delivered. This load cleaned out what we had in the shed These loads got more of the oak and some of the short hickory logs Then we cut a load of big boiler wood from another oak pile, had some big limbs and knotty logs that worked great for this. Another load of oak and hickory We have started on the new customer's trailer load. 2 1/2 rows of fresh oak Then we finished the oak and hickory that was in the mixed length pile. Got that split and loaded, made 2 1/2 rows of mostly hickory And a couple small rounds of elm in the mix, it split ok... Had 1 big round of elm. We got it split, but the center was still pretty stringy. I think we will take the rest of the elm, buck into rounds, noodle in half, and let dry for awhile Got 3 of the older oak logs bucked and staged for splitting today. I think there is 3 long oak logs left on the skids... Our customer for this load said they want another trailer load in the spring for next year......
Thats why we make firewood. Empty sheds are a good thing. Im sure you have plenty on hand to refill it! Keep up the great wood my friend!
