Napa Legend batteries are made by DEKA.... Found out when I walked into napa for a replacement for the ten year old DEKA in my Kubota RTV, and they told me and showed me they are the same thing. I have been using them for years in everything with no issues.
I'm still on the original battery for my 2013 (!) Ranger 900. Including plowing through every winter storm for the past 4 years. I'm concerned you have a parasitic draw or just a bad battery.
No not really. Every once in a while when I remember I put it on the charger to top it off. In addition to the winch I have a decent size light bar and utility lights on it too- so I'm also pretty hard on the poor thing.
Had an optimum agm in one of my plow trucks ( pre JC) got 6 seasons out of it ( plowing is tuff on electrical systems + the jouncing around. so Replaced with JC version of same 2 seasons- make your own conculsion. lately just been getting mid range Wally world stuff. 2 new batteries in truck 4 years ago one is only taking 85% charge other is still at 100%, luck of the draw I guess. Bad thing is that truck sees very limited use maybe 6000mi /year which ain't helping any I guess.
2 best batteries I've ever seen were both Motorcraft OEM...as in off the line in a new truck (off the line batteries are all black, unlike the Motorcraft replacement batteries) the 1 went 13 years, the other 15...and both trucks sit quite a bit, so not babied...
Yuasa GYZ series is what I'll be replacing my current OEM Yuasa with in my ATV when that time comes.......8 years so far on the original Yuasa. Good batteries. I wanted to "upgrade" to a Daka a couple years after buying my ATV and brand new it tested out worse than my OEM Yuasa did. Worse on load test and lower voltage after sitting overnight after a full charge. Not impressed with Daka batteries, at least that one. I sent it back for a refund and decided to keep the original. Glad I did, as it's been a great battery so far. https://www.yuasabatteries.com/powersports-batteries/agm-batteries/gyz-series-agm-batteries/
Both batteries in my 2015 F-350 were changed 3 or 4 times under warranty for leakage problems. Charging system checked out fine. Not really doing anything that should be hard on them either- no winch, no plow, just the occasional camper towing, which has a very basic system- just charging one battery, no inverters or fridge duty. I thought they used to be good, I used to run them in my F-150s due to the 3 year warranty, but after this I won't be spending money on Motorcraft batteries. They are out of warranty now, and at the first sign of leakage it's getting a pair of Deka/Napa Legends. Even my Ford dealer admitted they change them out often.
How long ago was that? My old optima story was pretty common apparently. Later after the JC buyout, I had another that didn't last that long, like 3 years. Since then, I won't buy them again
I recently purchased a 2007 Yamaha 660 Rhino after I brought it home I found the battery box to be empty .Went on the hunt and found the full size car battery under the drivers seat . It had several extra electrical accessories such as electric fuel pump and extra lights . In cold weather I like having the extra cranking power
The John Deere Strongbox battery that came in my tractor lasted 12 years. I went to Deere for another and it wasn't that bad of a price. Heaviest battery of that size I ever picked up. See if it lasts as long.
Did Lincoln like Miller stick the battery inside under the alternator too ? Another reason I want a sealed battery. Can't see the fumes from the acid doing the electrics any good.
Well, I agree with you. Does that count, lol. I just tell my experiences. As far as powersports, the Yuasa was what we most recommended to those wanting a quality battery (while I worked at the motorcycle shop). We didn’t go through enough lithium type batteries to find a faulty brand. I use the WPS Featherweight in my Ducati and it’s been perfect for several seasons. Kept in an unheated garage.
One of the best things about online shopping and discussions, is being able to read through all the different experiences. But one thing is that even products rated at 4.9 stars (out of 5), have a sizable number of negative reviews. We've all had different experiences, and it's good to hear all sides. But at some point we have to make a choice, and hope it plays out for the best. I appreciate all the input.
Yup...while I figure it was a fluke, I had a Deka bike battery that only made it about 1 month past the 6 month warranty...haven't bought a Deka since...although I probably would try one again. This one had a catroshrophic failure...when fine until it wasn't...12v to 0.0v in the blink of an eye...probably broken bus bar internally...pretty lame on a pampered street bike (V65 Sabre) Same here...Yuasa and some GS (and whoever it is that makes batts for BMW...don't recall now)...and lithium wasn't really a thing yet in powersports batteries when I got out 15 years ago...
Some ( maybe most) lithium batteries don't fare well being charged below freezing. Some have cold weather protection and the BMS will disconnect, some don't and just die.
