We all hate losing our stuff to people that help themselves to it. My HS students talk about this you tube guy Whistlin' Diesel (sp?) a lot. Well, watched his latest video and really changed my opinion of him. After spending a few minutes of your time, what do you think? A little language appears so be warned, (I felt the need to put this disclaimer in even though nothing bothered me).
The kid really rubbed me wrong the first few times I watched him and generally I paid no mind to any of his stuff after that (can't stand seeing people pizz away and destroy otherwise useable stuff) but we also have to remember that his page is a "business" and that's how he makes income.....as crazy as it is. And he hits over a million views sometimes within hours of posting a vid, so I guess business is really good. I watched the "thieves" video the day it came out because it popped up on my YouTube, and I must say he earned my respect with how he handled that situation. Definitely made me look at him in a different light (I still think he's a bit of an idiot).....
I actually skipped that video suggestion yesterday when watching som “Vice Grip Garage” videos (Derek is awesome!)... Glad I recognized it today in your post JWinIndiana Also glad this young fellow is tech savvy enough and full on CYA to catch this shmuck. His handling of himself and the compliment by that one detective really captures it “Not many people would handle this this way (paraphrased)” shows this kid has a crap ton of decency. Great video!!!
I agree! It was sick to listen to the scumbag try and explain. You’re a dammm thief period. Karma caught up to that one. Now hopefully he’s popular in his town.
That dude is making serious $$$ on his videos, affiliate marketing, "merch" and sponsored videos. He's very likely pulling in 3mill+ a year.
Yep. If you have a million views on YT, you're more than likely at least a millionaire in the bank roll. You spend/ waste $ a little differently than normal folks then. Plus, YT needs shock and awe to garner views.
I see our government wants in on the action by asking thieves to report the value of stolen goods on their tax returns. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I caught that vid of Wistlindiesel the day it came out. I even commented on it. I subscribed after watching only that one vid. He's a standup guy for not pressing charges. And for giving the thief his money back.
He certainly has the right to handle the situation any way he wants and I can kind of understand his decision but I would have a hard time with the lack of accountability for the thief. Maybe he figures plastering his face all over YouTube will be good enough. I might have requested the thief make a donation to a few charities in lieu of pressing charges.
Paid youtubers get .10-.30 per view, average is .18. That video, currently @ 11,713,292 views, @ the average made $2,108,392. EDIT: If he's @ the .30 per, it would be worth$3,513,987.60!
It is actually $3.00ish up to $35/$40 per 1k views depending on content. Then subtract 40% back to YouTube. Financial channels rake in the upper end, tech stuff is right there too, equipment videos do pretty well also. I'm not sure what range he would be in. He has the ability to hold viewers on the platform and YT values that pretty highly. I bet he's in he 25-30/1k view range. He will probably net 150-200k from that video this month. Sponsored videos for him would be in the 5 figures for each video. Myownbosscompany is his primary, maybe, only sponsor. They are probably paying pretty well for that privilege. His merchandise line has got to be a huge source of revenue. Numbers I've seen are 15% of viewers will visit the merchandise link, 1-2% visiting will buy something. Put out 2-3 videos a month with 2-3 million views and you ain't hurtin. I'm surprised he doesn't do affiliate marketing, at least not that I've seen. Maybe through his website? There is some real passive income in that sector.
Sounds like they are calculating his "clicks per thousand" aka, CPM at 15.00/1k. I would think that is a smidge low for his channel
