No No, Its not a pellet lesson or a way to check how dense a pellet is! More like a pellet soap opera. Or just how much availability changes from season to season.

Last season I had excellent choices at both the pellet house's and the box stores. How things change, I held out buying until about the last minute this season thinking I could score something decent at the boxes for cheap. Waiting made me miss what the pellet houses had on sale(spring deals). Besides the MWP at TSC I have little to brag about this season from the box store. TSC is charging more than both Lowes and HD too. $234/ton is getting close to what the pellet houses are asking for their stuff! Last season I had PTL's and Timber Heats readily available with goobs of them in stock!

Yeah, There are some boxes near me that have some good choices, Except there far enough away that hauling them out ways the cost savings in what it would cost in fuel to get them. And now the pellet house deals have past and price has about scared me.

Just grumbling about my lack of choice this season and how I read some have a better selection than I used too. How this can change so quickly is beyond me! If I don't get something by the time I need my next ton, I'll have to either spend on the pellet house spendy brands or use up what I have in my stash and wait for the next spring deal or decent box store brand.

Doesn't look to be as simple this season as in years past! Guess its what I get for relying on the box store!

Oh good, I was hoping for a pellet soap opera. Can we call it: Pellets of Anarchy?

Here in the land of pellets, prices are about the same as last year. Some CL examples today: $219 for Pacific pellets (Doug fir) and $210 for Natural Glow (made by Blue Mountain, 25% white fir, 75% Doug fir). Delivery is like $20 for 1-5 tons within 20 miles.

Jay what we're finding down here is plenty of choices at the big boxes Lowe's has the most ,but no price war this year:( and the prices are close to the Turman's or Hamer's I can get from my local stove shop so that's where I'm spending my $$ and they help me load them:)

I waited, then pulled the trigger at HD for MWP @ $188 with my vet's discount. But the best play is to be more like the wood burners and have a year ahead (Smokey does this). Then you can risk holding out for that special deal. Biggest problem is storage space because most of us won't store pellets out in the open.

Stopped by HD and Lowes today to see if anything has changed from Greene Supreme and Greene Teams.

2 new ones: HD had Stove Chow and Lowes had Nations Choice (made or bagged in Foxboro MA...IE- Inferno). Didnt bother checking prices.

Yep, I also can store a seasons worth. I only needed a refill of 1 ton. My second full season filling as I go. But if I can't find something to refill with, I am going to have to use the good stuff I stashed that I am trying to stretch a few seasons out of.

Storage is definitely a problem for me too!

Well, the Lowes by me has Timber Heat and Premium ($209/ton). They got a load of 44 tons of Somersets last week that was gone in 1 1/2 days.....of course, take one guess who had to work and couldn't get there.:(

HD has about 40 tons of Green Supreme and some Chow. Interesting that the GS has been sitting there for almost a month. yuck

One of the Lowes near me has Greene Team, Timber Heat, Hearth-something, and Somersets.
Picked up a Jeep load of Somersets today. $4.35 a bag on my Lowes card. Didn't ask the prices
    on the other stuff.

First time trying these. My experience with big box store pellets
has = great heat but way more ash than the pellet house stuff.
IF the sets change that 8 year trend for me I'll go back and get tonnage.
    Took quick pic in store:

Jay, this is the first time they've been local. Prior to this season
no place near me ever carried them.

Try a few bags of the Timber Heat too. I test burned about 4-5 bags last year and liked them. Bought 2 tons this year.
