It’s a terrible affliction to endure. Constantly doing double takes as I drive down the road, always the ever present tension of coming across the next grove just around the bend... so far I’ve done well scrounging local; lots of dead stuff with little or no bark left. All told I’m closing in on a cord so far. Got a small trailer load today and split it. Put the moisture meter to it and was very pleased. Looks like I’ll be burning some this season! Happy 4th everyone! Have fun and be safe.

No safe way to drag it up the bank it was on without getting hurt or making a scene. So I rolled the log down the hill into the water below, forded the river with it, dragged it up the bank and rolled it another 50ft to my truck. Ended today’s small score with some various smaller dead stuff to compliment the hard earned heavy log I got.

That cool water was right on time. It was just below 90 when I was in the thick of it so jumping in was second nature

I felt this 2 minute scrounge wasn’t worthy of its own thread so I’m adding it to this older one. I’ve had my eye on these crusty barkless lengths of black locust since last winter when I first spotted them. They were up on a bank roadside in tangles of prickers and bittersweet vines. In the summer they’re obscured from view. Today the mania was upon me, and not having my saw in the truck I opted to take what I could. There’s an entire tree there up on the bank that I’ll pick away at in due time, but this was today’s small victory. Enough for a couple cold days anyway. By the looks of how long it’s been down, this’ll probably get burned next winter.

Well I’ll be darned. The wood is drier on the inside than it is on the outside. I could burn this later this week if I want to. For those not afflicted with the mania yet, take note ;)

Had to look it up. Pretty cool stuff. I’d probably kill myself.
Here’s what I came up with. Total of four.

I don't imagine that machine would mix well with that Crown Royal...

Had never heard of that burner so looked it up. The website I looked at that sells them...I can't say that I've ever seen a homepage that talked about safety that much.
