Yep, they want one. Was telling dad he's too old to be chasing this much wood and that he'd cut usage by at least 1/2. They are just looking for the right one. He knocked about every piece of bark off he could.
Thats great. Once they get it theyll wish they got it sooner. My sister and i bought one for dad for his birthday many years ago and he loved it. he would burn the basement fireplace prior to that. Only downside is less saw time for you Smart on his part taking the bark off and leave the mess there. Dont know if id have the patience though. How much has loose bark?
I’d say 100% of that big tree & 60-70% of the rest. No appointments today at the shop so why not get paid to hoard! Aside from the recent drops, these guys need to come down. Another 2 leader that has bark falling off at the top. Primo firewood.
Good grief Charlie Brown! 394 has a 28” bar for reference. Over 1/2 is 4rounds wide. Other end has those 48”ers. When do I stop?
That’s an absolutely massive amount of dead chestnut oak there.... If I scored that much and already had the inventory you’ve got, I’d be tempted to shave off all the outside sapwood and bark, keeping only the heartwood splits. Compost the waste. Less mess, less bark taking up room in the stacks.
Nothing wrong with getting paid to do it. All this hoarding has me chomping at the bit to go cutting.
Impressive stack of rounds to be made into splits, amazing amount of wood Jason. Glad to see Dad out there chasing that much wood.
I won't stop, but I will slow down a little. Over worked pops and there's a few tree's I want to get for him next. That would certainly slow it down a LOT. Skidding long lengths or scooping 48s sucks!
With how scarce oak firewood is to find near me I never would! Start splitting, stacking and making room in the yard for as much as you can drag home! Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Keep cutting, hauling and taking pictures. It feeds my soul. I have lots of trees that are waiting for me but a sore knee has me sidelined. I am pretty sure I tore the meniscus again. MRI next Tuesday. Just got a shot of cortisone yesterday so I can bobble through work and be able to sleep at night. Not what I need but the reason we stay ahead on the woodpile
Ouch, that will slow ya down quickly, hope you have a speedy recovery. the last time I was out cutting my arm hurt that night, didn't think much of it, still hurt like a sob the next day, that night I was feeling my arm were it hurt and had a huge ball in it, guessing I tore a group of muscles took over a week for it to dull down.
Take it easy for sure! One of the reasons we get so far ahead is an insurance policy in case if something like this. Hope that MRI turns out in your favor.
I recall someone posting something about “is it possible to have too much firewood” a while back. Spoiler alert: pretty much everyone replied NO Seriously, as a couple posts above allude to, health is a big reason. You might be injured one year. Or br ill for longer. If you have a wife and kids…some extra inventory will give you peace of mind
While in the woods cutting and while off-loading to that mountain, I often think "what if" and then hope my FHC locals would have a splitting gtg should something happen to me before I get to it. Not sure why my mind goes there, I guess tomorrow is never promised and I appreciate each day. Another issue is my staging area is near full! I could keep going higher? Never have I had this much wood on the property!
