Been on my days off and some vacation time added on. Only cut and delivered 1 load of firepit wood. Hickory limbs/small splits and oak splits Hauled 3 loads of logs home from our friend's place... Had to go a little lighter on the last load, it didn't want to dump that load above. A coworker/friend got a load of short logs and m mm poo

We went over to a neighbor's house Monday morning. He had some big pecan trees trimmed back and oak, cedar and sweet gum taken down. He is keeping the cedar to make a fence, we put the sweet gum on the burn pile...lol... We got about half the yard cleaned up. Got a trailer load of pecan and 3 pieces of oak trunk. My hunny was coldand hungry by this time. My friend/coworker, Chris, came and helped us. He got a load of pecan and a load of the smaller oak. After my hunny warmed up, we brought the tractor back home abd went hunting. Saw 3 deer and this flock of turkeys. Used my phone and binoculars to take the picture, as they were 280 yrs away.
I started to keep it for firepit/campfire wood, but with what we have coming in, didn't need to get behind on it. Just being a WOOD SNOB...
Nothing wrong with that when you have so much primo to choose from! Excellent progress since my last visit. Seems my notifications aren't consistent. Did ya ever see flame birch? It's some awesome stuff! You really should have the ability to mill. I see so many dollar signs in that figured load.
Wow, that is some pretty boards. There is a Woodmizer mill a couple miles from home. I have built furniture with my dad several different times. Did you run those boards thru a planer? At dad's shop, we have something you need for that figured grain...24" dual drum sander...
Split some chunks today. Hickory, oak and 2 holly stump cutoffs. Filled 7 buckets and put the rest on the truck Split the hickory and oak with the mail, even this knot and crotch pieces. That holly said "Not today" and laughed at me. Had to crank up the hydraulics....my turn to laugh... Got about 3/4 drum of holly Almost a drum of hickory and oak. Holly was about 22-23% moisture. It was cut April this year.
I can see lines that are typical of a planer with not optimal knives, so it was definitely ran through one. If they aren't perfectly sharp, you get chip-out and even if they are you can still get it. Drum sanding is best with heavily figured wood. Wish those were mine!
You guys gets some tough junk mail if it can split wood! Sorry Jeff, Eric VW is a bad influence! What are the chunkies destined for, personal use?
I have 3 very large thick slabs of maple with figure waiting to be used. I've been tempted to take it to the local mill guy (who I grew up beside) who has a large drum sander, then sell it. Happened to be my first experience on a CSM. And I milled a big maple that had crotch figure. Got a bunch of pieces like this:
MERRY CHRISTMAS from Goat Town Firewood... Sorted the 4 loads of logs we got recently. Stacked the hickory, oak and ash on poles. Already had a pile of pecan on the ground, just added to it. Pecan... Hickory...clean logs... Oak... Ash...fresh cut ends, it's on the skids with some holly and 3 hickory short logs
We added 3 more loads from the big score, got it sorted, and the ash processed. I just started a thread on that big score...Rebuilding our inventory I'll be back on this one soon...
