I believe my hearth is Progress Hybrid ready.

I'm going to take a sledge hammer to that mantle, though. You dont know the meaning of pizzed off until you discover that fancy mantle that you just built is in the way of your head when you stand up after loading the stove. :headbang: And have to forcefully relearn that lesson a couple of times a year. 20211206_203335.jpg

Would like to find a way to keep the accent lights, though. That's the only good thing about the mantle.

Could they go on the ceiling? Could even be mounted so they can be turned/aimed...I think that would still look good.

This solved my mantle issue, but I'm told that it's a bit redneck'ish. 20211219_185130.jpg

Joking aside, I am stuck with the mantle, due to the stone around it. I think that when I rebuild it, if it sticks out 2-3" rather than the current 10", I should not be such a head banger. And I'm hoping to fashion strips of LED's, similar to under-cupboard lights to keep the same lighting effect.

Is the mantle also a head banger ?

Yes. Embarrassing to say, but I designed a mantle that I can hit my head on in normal operation of the stove.

You really will need to adjust to include any north American made products, otherwise you'll probably not be able to buy anything. So many items are made in central America, that go into Canadian and American products. If you don't indie all of NA, it will get even tougher to try to buy things.

I know there is a massive global exchange and there isnt always a good choice. I wouldn't worry about it except that there is a big trade imbalance (and exchange rate imbalance) and a lack of giving workers fair treatment. When I see a company like Kuma or Woodstock and their products its a no-brainer. I wonder where they get their steel from though.

I'm also more hardline on quality than where from.

Woodstock told me that the stone comes from a quarry in Quebec, the steel is sourced locally, and the cast parts come from Spain. 15 years ago, when I bought my FireView, I was told that the cast iron came from Belgium, because it was the highest quality cast that they could get. I didn't ask the reasoning this time, just the source.

    Sounds about right.
Probably a bit of a learning curve in making cast iron stove pieces.
    .
    BTW, your hearth looks nice.

The reason is that place went out of business.

If it interests you, I had trouble while we lived in a 5th wheel, husband cut up pool noodles for me. You can paint them too.

Pool noodles would be a good solution. Thank you. I hope to have it rebuilt by the time I need to re-learn the yearly lesson next season.

This one is for a new detached garage/workshop I just completed. It will be my 3rd woodstove. Currently have a 42 year old Jotul 118 in the house, and a 5 year old Regency 3500 in the basement. I love both of these, even though they are very different. I chose the BlazeKing for the extended run time with automatic control since it will be in a separate building.

Years back when I was a boy my dad was a Quality Control Supervisor for an electrical fittings corporation here in Connecticut- Bridgeport Fittings.
Some of you guys may have used their products at some point.

I can remember him lamenting to my mom that he needed to select people from his team to be laid off- and he was very upset. Competition from China was reducing the company from running around the clock to only 2 shifts. He was an old school guy. A quiet man who only got upset when the Jets or the Mets lost. Lol... somewhat regularly if you follow sports.
He got sick when he was a 55 and died shortly thereafter due to a very aggressive cancer. My brother and I were fairly young in our 20s.
Stuck without much to do and feeling kind of frustrated with how little we could control I wound up remembering his frustrations with having to lay workers off- and I wound up pledging to only buy American made products for a year. After the year I decided to keep trying- I slowly replaced all my clothes and what I could as I could.

I haven't been able to do it for everything but I found the stuff I was buying fell into 3 broad categories: 1) things I could get made in USA, 2) things I couldn't and I went without and 3) things I couldn't but I accepted my own hypocrisy and made the purchase.
Electronics are really difficult, but most other items tend to be popular.
It kind of sucks paying $25 for a pair of underwear, but it's worth it if some guy or gal keeps their job.
