Looking for advice on chains for my ms362 I love the Stihl chains but my local guy has jacked up his prices. What would you recommend. Most of the wood I have are a range of soft and hard woods that been sitting for a while might have some dirt on them . What do you think about Oregon advance cut chains
I currently use RS and X Cut chain. Not sure of the # attached to the xcut chain, but it’s a decent replacement for RS. I like the xcut bar oil too.
Look online several mail order houses in ny have chain selling online cheaper than I can even buy for my shop , George Kahler sales usually has good prices I can give you a price I have oregon and husky xcut available but shipping cost usually knocks me for a" loop" let me know sizes JB
OOPS! forgot to answer your question got on the price thing I use oregon chain I have used others but for the cost and sharpenability oregon has always been a good value I use semi chisel mostly for cutting, the logs I get that are not run over the sawmill are all from tree services and usually are dirty mud nails etc and semi holds a edge longer in dirty logs full chisel and square ground cut faster in clean logs but that point is a little more fragile on muddy logs. Stay away from the oregon advance cut 75V chain hard to sharpen with that large depth gauge use the oregon power cut EXL series i really like it if your logs are real dirty you can try the dura cut it holds up a little better JB
I use a lot of Oregon (older) LGX and a bunch of the new EXL. Cuts very good, holds an edge decent and isn't hard to file. Price is good too. Oregon chainsaw chain and guide bar for sale bulk saw chain in stock
I previously only ran either RS or Xcut but when I tried a few loops of EXL, I notice no difference other than my wallet stayed fuller.
I run mostly Stihl chain, but have also had good luck with Oregon and Carlton, and as crazy as it sounds, I bought a whole pile of "Grizzly" brand chains at a local flea market last winter in sizes from 72dl up to 84dl for 10 bucks a loop! Full chisel, 3/8 - .050! I can't find it anywhere on the planet, but that guy had a pile of it there nd I bought ll the 20" and 25" loops he had...I've been using a few loops and surprisingly it's held up nicely. I'm hoping he's there at that flea market when we go back next month!!
I ran on Stihl chains for years, then found a couple Oregon EXL on eBay. They cut good and last well... Last year, I got a breaker and spinner. I bought a 25' roll of Archer chain. It cuts and lasts almost as good as Stihl chain. These hickory logs were 7 months old. Cut a full cord of this hickory and oak before needing file touch up. I liked it enough, I bought a roll of Archer .325 chain too.
I always ran Stihl chain till about a year and a half ago. I tried some Archer chain direct from Archerplus. The prices aren't bad and they have a lot of lightweight bars also at decent prices. I've been very happy with the Archer chain. It is usually pretty good right out of the package and after I use it a while and it needs sharpened, I convert it over to square filed. It seems to hold an edge well and files just fine. I'm no pro but I go through 7 cord a year of firewood, keep 65 acres of woods cleaned up, and cut for logs for on our hobby sawmill, so I cut a lot of wood. The Archer isn't quite like a Stihl chain, but for half the price I've been very happy with it. I'll probably end up getting a 24" bar and full comp full chisel chain for my 357 and will probably get the Tsumara bar and Archer chain from Archerplus direct.
