I think the boy would enjoy it for a bit, but without mama around to watch a 3 year old is tough to keep an eye on and drop trees. I would love for the whole family to come and help, but don't expect them too. I've had the whole family help before and loved it, but don't think the wife enjoys it near as much as me. The daughter, 6, helps a decent amount with the bundles we sell.
Cool! How much did it total to? Just curious. Native Americans often made bows out of osage orange. Largest osage orange I ever saw was in my town and it fell in a windstorm. Tree service showed up (land owned by a hospital) and I tried my darnedest, any way I could sweet talk them, even offered to pay... nope... they hauled it away to be chipped up for compost. Can you imagine my agony. I'd say that tree was close to 30" DBH. We call them lots of names but "bois d'arc" is common here -- "bo dark." In French, it means arc of the bow or something like that.
That's usually $10 for some quantity..offen a cord or two maybe? If we're talking a 10" diameter oak 40ft to a bunch of branches there is no where near a cord in that tree. And most don't cut down to like 1" on branches to get everything either.
National forest here charges 5 dollars for a 1/2 cord. So one cord 10 bucks or one good size tree 10 bucks.
Not always. On CL and FBMP, people ask $50 per tuck load, you cut. Tree's are down, sometimes tops after logging. Firewood - farm & garden - by owner - sale
I don't either but I live in a rural area and have government land all around me . And get offered more wood that I usually can cut.
I didn't realize there is actually anyone buying at those prices though. You see posts for all kinds of crazy stuff. But can't imagine anyone paying that. Someone that owns a truck and saw I would think could find free wood unless they may live in a huge urban area with lots of competition for wood....but I know that's no where around here. But in the south, even the upstate no one burns for heat hardly especially in the city. Those that do either get all they want or don't pay for it. After any summer storm or winter storm with wind or ice there is oak logs and even rounds laid all over the street you can get for free.
I also am a Forester so I have a better idea than most where to find wood, get wood and often will get it loaded onto my trailer if I go that route.
I pretty rarely pay for wood. Usually there is plenty of dead fall or people dropping trees that don't want to pay to haul them off. I understand paying to cut someone else's trees down seems a little bizarre to some. I suppose location makes a difference. Central Kansas isn't usually known for its thick forests. Not having to haul brush, rake up chips, leaves and twigs and being able to get equipment in without worrying about tearing yards up is one of the reasons I plan on proceeding. Getting to cherry pick (no pun intended) is also nice. And, like most, if I'm paying for something, I always want the best. This will allow for the primo wood to get dropped first and not bother my conscious for not getting them all. Not to mention its only 8 miles from the house.
Hmmm...curious... He wants $10 per tree for trees that will be dozed over and burned... Either way, those bigger trees are worth 10 bucks.
I agree with 10 bucks or let them burn seems kinda weird. I suppose he's a businessman. I do appreciate everyone weighing in with their own take on the situation. Thats definitely why i posted on here. I think like many others, firewood is about my only hobby. I am fortunate to not rely solely on wood so really most time when its cool out, I throughly enjoy chainsaw work. Acquiring firewood also feeds my odd habit of having an abundance of things. If that makes any sense. Cad comes to mind, flashlights are another vice I have. So while paying someone money to cut down trees on a property before it gets bull dozed seems asinine, ill probably do it because I am a firewood hoarder and can't stop myself.
