He cut hundreds of cords with this when he lived in the country. He doesn’t cut firewood anymore and any things that have to be done around his house are small and I can do it for him. I put a new plug in it and some fresh e free gas and it fired right up, put it on the shelf till’ last night. Got it out, cleaned it up, new bar and chain on it. Went to fire it up and gas is leaking everywhere! Probably a rotted fuel line. I’ll look at it further once I get my bench cleaned off. I know they made tons of these and it’s not rare or anything but it’s my first “old” saw. Probably won’t use it much because it’s got no chain brake, but from what I gather they are a reliable workhorse of a saw. Just thought I’d post a pic for y’all.

That's a beauty of a saw. I say fix it and run it like it was built to be run.

Nice. If it runs, then use it.

It's not ready to be a wall hanger.

Nice! I’m finding that I really enjoy old saws. I use the couple I have, chain brake or not.

    The nostalgia?

I have some oldies and while they are cool to look at, they cut uber slow, vibrate the living chit out of my hands and are very heavy. I run pap's 59 Pioneer once or twice a year and that's enough for me. I think it weighs 30 pounds. Maybe it's the fact that well ported modern saws just ruin everything else. :saw:

Cool saw! Parts are everywhere for these, and alot of parts for the bigger 2 series models will work on the 61.

You should be able to get a brake for that pretty easy. Maybe not an original metal handled one, but a functioning one made for the 61 chasis.

I’ve got a white top 61 also. Pretty cool Rancher

I’d like a 288 for that reason but I know it wouldn’t get used much.

I only have three old saws and all three are smallish, light saws. My Stihl 024 was the first firewood chainsaw I bought new right after we were married. I use it to this very day, within its capabilities. It cuts fine within reason and holds lots of nostalgia for me.

Husky white top 61. Nice saw. Just remember with a saw that old not only are the fuel lines old but so are the crank seals and intake boot. So keep a close ear to the tuning when using it.

The old 61 is a good saw and the start of all the 2 series huskies from 60-72cc, that one will have a 2 piece ignition with coil and separate trigger. Hasn’t been available for some time but I have used the Chinese copy and it’s been working for couple years in the two I tried for neighbors saws.
