I sell very little wood but after this year will have plenty of reserve and probably could. I pride myself in only selling truly seasoned hardwood when I do. I have been fortunate to have gotten into a couple ash groves last year and this year. Do you guys think that ash taken this year is ok to sell ? I have checked fresh split and it definitely has a lower content but don’t want to rip anyone off , ever and more importantly wouldn’t want to risk contributing to a chimney fire. Maybe just tell them what it is and let it be on them ? Most people here don’t know or don’t care - they would burn green pine if you had it....
I generally sell ash 3-6months after splitting and stacking. Ash is probably the fastest seasoning wood. I think you're fine
Around here there is so much ash wood available I have several customers that check their wood with a meter and ash cut from standing dead trees this spring was 16-18% with one and 16% readings from the other they cut and split in march and they are using and or selling it now JB
Be upfront with your customers about when you cut and split. Try a few representative splits in your stove to see if anything bubbles out the end. Let them know your results.
I'd trust the MM but I also agree in that I'd bet you'd be perfectly fine w/ 6 months c/s/s with ash. What does your meter read on it?
