Just over half a load of R. Oak was installed 2 hrs ago. 40F outside and very warm inside. This yo yo weather has the reloading timing all goofy! Oh well. Actually, woke up today to a skiff of snow. Didn't last long. Very nice day.
As far as I can see there is no one singled out here no matter what you use for heat it is good for all when the temperatures are higher, burn less wood , use less gas , less oil , use less electricity , whatever the case may be
Currently about 5 above F Wind is blowing 30 with stronger gusts . Had to go to the city today to drive a friend's car back. They winter over in Fla , Kty and other parts. But fly back and forth a couple times each winter. Rode the shuttle bus up. Drove home. It sure is fun getting to be a passenger for a change. I can rubber neck to my heart's content, play on my phone , dig out and open and eat snacks and never have to look at the road or even pay attention . I'm really hoping this blows itself out tonight. Kinda blowing too hard to put rafters up tomorrow. And that's what I have to do. Fkws in the stove.
Places that have historically had cold or coldish winters should have cold to coldish winters. Yes it's more work. But it pays off.
Sorry but ,what does that have to do with everyone in the same boat And what is more work that pays off ? seems that you are being kind of vague here or maybe I'm just misunderstanding it doesn't make a difference what you use for heat if the temperatures are higher it is at your advantage that's my point
This warm weather everyone is having down there is not good for many things. And trees grow back at an alarmingly fast pace. Warm winters make the populace soft and idle. Nothin like 40 below to make the punk kids pull their darn pants up ! There is a certain amount of struggle to get through a winter that is good for people.
Yes there is a certain amount of struggle to get through the winter and there's nothing wrong with that it is expected, but your looking at as a perspective from a person that lives in Alaska ,. we don't deal with extreme temperature you do there and we don't expect it. The point of my post was. When the temperatures are higher, we burn less wood , use less gas , less oil , use less electricity , whatever the case may be
I grew up in central Maine. The first time I ever saw 52° F below 0 was when I was 12 years old on the thermometer out on our barn . Having the temp not get above 30 below for days and days was common. In fact, the reason I checked the thermometer that day was we were waiting on the school bus and it was really Cold. Even with how polluted the Penobscot river was back then , it was frozen over solid from bank to bank. We lived, I would say we thrived. Grew up strong and healthy and we knew how to work Hard. I came to Alaska because I thot the summers were too hot down there . And far too long.
Currently 38f should get up to 41f today with snow starting this evening, 1.5" or so. Don't think it will stick, at least hope not. After that, back to warming up to a possible 72f on Wednesday. Sure not burning much wood yet.
31 & 70 Expecting some weather moving through starting this afternoon. Rain, snow and of coarse..... Wind! Oh well, we warm up through the next week. May hit a record high in the 60's. The new normal? Guess I better go chef up some for the wife. Enjoy your day everyone.
36/71. Weather hack is saying highs in the mid sixties tomorrow, but rain. Guess firewooding will wait for Sunday.
