I'm proud to say, no. A neighbor cut it but We passed that tree whenever we went somewhere. I was a bit shocked it was down so had to get a picture. It appears that he did have a problem but it turned out okay. Look where the notch was with no hinge and the cut was not straight. Then he burned it and bulldozed the stump to clear the field. I do wonder how old that tree was. I also know of some cottonwood larger than that. The MI largest one is in the UP near Cornell.
It was warm in the house last evening so I did not load the stove. 27 out and 63 in when I got up this morning. Radar shows snow in the area but I don't see any.
Woke up to more fun temps, glad it’s my long weekend, the boys and I got extra wood stacked by the boiler for this cold snap. Hopefully it starts to break today.
Thank you sir! That's a very good & straight forward explanation/education that I can put to good use. I'll carry a .404 setup anytime I gotta deal with Poplar of any variety.
41 degrees out now with 22mph winds. Stove 1/4 full of 3o month split/stacked Ash. 86 degrees here in the stove room and 72 in the living-room. Right now relaxing vertically after getting a pickup truck load of Ash from the town dump. I’ll split & stack that in the spring and add it to the hoard.
Winds are finally ying down here. The lake is still open but not for long now. Image is not me but looks exactly like whaqt happened a week ago.
Naw, good time to stay off the ice when it's like that. Open means no ice. You can see where right along the shoreline earlier ice has formed and blown in. Then, about 8-10 out from the shoreline, floating ice has accumulated from the winds and waves we had today. It has died down now. After that, it's nothing but water. Clear, cold water.
We are supposed to get some light snow tonight, and then lows in the single digits through the middle of next week, so I think I will be walking out and spearing next weekend. Then pulling the permanent house with the wheeler the following weekend if there is more cold after this latest shot of Arctic air.
That is iced over as in snow across the top.. it’s a man made lake hydroelectric dam blocking river.. haven’t gone across big lake lately
6” on the ponds and small lakes last weekend up north at our cabin. I got report from a friend fishing Upper Red Lake near Bemidji that they have wheelers out all over on 7-8” today. Red lake is 288,000 acres (over 420 sq miles) but it is very shallow. Deeper lakes over 300 acres have a lot of open water still.
Dang, now I need another saw in case I run into some Cottonwood! We had a big one cut to bury the power when we built the house. Burned that wood for 2 seasons. Probably 8 cord in that tree.
About 29 tonight. I just loaded Beech in the Wood Gun for the overnight. Looks to cool down some and then be 50 on Monday afternoon with rain!
You and me both, buddy. I was playing outside with my kid today in a t shirt. It’s been the warmest fall I can ever remember here.
26 out right now, just loaded the OWB up with basswood and 2 rounds of maple. Calling for some snow, hoping we don't get much.
No, everything was fine. It hadn't been long enough to freeze anything. I gotta find some hard dry standing dead aspen. Hold the fire longer.
But really , isn't it the same. At 0 it doesn't take much of a breeze to drop the WC to 20 below. -15 ain't bad, the roads dry out quick makes for nice driving. And not so cold as to make thing bad. It's been hanging between 18 to 22 underneath since yesterday afternoon. Stove full of fkws.
