Sometimes getting older sucks. Got this small load this afternoon and this was all of the workout I wanted. Too many knots so I didn’t split it all. On the bright side, it was a beautiful day and I had the peaceful mountain to myself as nobody else was cutting this afternoon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Where are you cutting? It almost looks like an alien landscape, except for the trees in the far background.
I thought it was somesort of clear cut operation. Dey sho don't leve notin standin' does dey? Some of those logs look mill worthy. I'm surprized you get such nice wood.
Anything they leave standing is quickly blown over in the next wind storm. Trees don’t last long without the others there to protect them. There will be a lot of blowdown on the edge of the clearcut as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reloader How soon after clear cutting do they come thru and replant? I do see some younger trees in front of your truck.
I think they have a two year window to get planted. The process has changed over the years. They used to burn the clearcut after logging. This removed a lot of the debris from the ground before planting. Now they pile some of the brush up and burn the piles but leave much more debris on the ground. Some of the areas are virtually inaccessible because the debris can be chest high. Somehow the tree planters get through that and get the trees planted. It’s can be a tough job. A lot of areas they put a tag on the seedlings to keep the elk from nipping them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
