I came home today unfortunately…… I’d love to move there the property has been in the family almost 100 years now and leaving to come home is always hard. We managed to take two small does and saw a bunch of other deer and had a bobcat sneak up on me! Heading home out of our road this afternoon. View from the front door of camp. Tasty bits and a Husky 372 to keep it FHC approved.
My deer season has ended. Nothing in the freezer but I had a great time. I love to sit in woods with a rifle on my lap. It’s actually the highlight of my year! Had a coyote sneaking past me 30 yards didn’t take a shot cuz there were deer in front of me. Did not see an antlered buck in my woods but in MIL woods I let 8 small bucks go to grow. Only one was a 2 and half year old but he was a small 2 and halfer. Love to see all the deer on the ground pics! Keep em coming please!
I walked home in the dark last night, with my tag still in my pocket and the season over. I had one walk up to me last weekend, within less than 40, look at me and then walk a semicircle around me to continue on its way. It was getting dark, but the scope pulls in quite a bit of light and I couldn’t make it grow any antlers. Like ole , I had a great season. On my way home last night I crossed the stream into the pasture and heard the fence beside me go “twang”. Hmmm - could not see anything moving. Got a couple hundred yards further and spooked things off to my right, and heard a lot of fence stretching going on. Pretty funny to think they were in the pasture right behind the barn while I was out hunting in the woods. Maybe a chair in the hayloft is the way to go.
Here’s a buck one of the bowhunters hit & couldn’t find. 2nd year in a row I have found his deer for him. Last years was a 9 pointer. Coyotes have had a nice meal out the hind quarters. This weekend opens first season shotgun here, my son-in-law, his sister & father will be hunting for does. Hopefully they will reduce the population by 10-12.
Dang, nice buck. Sounds like that guy needs to get better at tracking and recovery, or hang the bow up...
They tracked him about 1/4 mile from where he was stuck then the blood dried up. That buck made a big loop, crossed 2 other properties & was about 1/2mile back south from where they lost the trail. I believe this is the fellas 2nd year bow hunting, his son has had no problems finding his deer. I think it’s more an accuracy problem than tracking. I wasn’t even sure it was his deer because it was so far from where they lost the trail. They tracked it to the neighbors fence in the dark & came back the next day & got permission to access the neighbors property & lost the trail.
No blood...I always pictured you running thru the woods after a big buck, wrestling him to the ground and snapping his neck with the Sausage Fingers! Must admit that I have weird dreams!!
Any of you see this? Crazy. "‘I was terrified’: Hunter shoots deer, watches as bears pounce on it - The Virginian-Pilot" ‘I was terrified’: Hunter shoots deer, watches as bears pounce on it
Horkn, never saw that one. You see this one, earlier in bow season, happened less than an hour from me. You can scroll through the pics at the top. Bear bites Eau Claire bow hunter in tree stand
