Here's a wood rack I built for the back porch. I started out with a simple rack made from those steel brackets sold on Amazon and some 2X4's. I was told we needed a space for kindling and some protection from rain coming in on the open side. That led to plywood on the back to protect the house. Finally I was told opening the back door and seeing bare wood was unpleasant so yet more plywood was added. All the 2x4's and plywood is used so I'm in it for the price of the brackets ($40ish?). What do you all use for close at hand wood storage?

Looks good Brad. All mine gets stored in my unfinished basement (about 2.5 cord), so out of sight out of mind.

Nothing fancy. 2x4s and a couple pieces of old black pipe.

I have this 8footer on the deck.

The wood stove is 10 steps through that door.

Between door and rack, is the ash barrel. And just peeking out, on top of the barrel, is a white stick/kindling bucket.

Very nice! Looks very orderly with the separate kindling shelf. At My house we run a wheel barrow full of wood into the attached garage then run a bucket of wood into the stove as needed.

Here’s what I have immediately outside my back door. It was already here at the house when I bought it so I put it right to use.

I take down part of our porch railing every year. Built this for our upstairs stove. I had to figure something out cause I didn’t want to carry wood in and have to climb stairs. This works good for us. 2937A4BC-6A44-4DD2-805D-13A6D21E87E5.png 903BDF73-7905-4176-8CE8-C1358ED0B6F2.png

Some really good looking racks. Mine is rather simple and not as nice looking. I just set up a temporary pallet rack on our patio. I place 2 pallets on some bricks to allow water to run under and a pallet on each end. Good for a cord. Refill from wood shed when needed

Here's a set up I assemble on the back patio every fall. 2 metal rick racks then roof frame built from a big oak skid covered with steel roofing that I split down the middle so I could handle it myself.

Nice and clean! That's what I started out to make but the project went sideways.

5 cord in the outside woodshed 30' or so from the basement double doors. Wheelbarrow gets it into the basement to the two 1/2 cord racks inside that are just 2 x 4's screwed into the floor joists at the top and 2 x 4's at the bottom to keep the wood off the concrete floor.

    Wheelbarrow at Basement door.JPG

This picture was taken with my back against the double doors to the outside. Cold stove in picture is the old one that may go in a garage / workshop to be built. Hot stove is just to my right and not in this picture.

I have it cover other stacks in the woodyard. I could use more.

You are a very busy man and creative too. Is that your ax throwing target in the first photo?

Yes, my nephew and neighbor (they grew up together) got me started on it a few years ago. I make them from a few HUGE Cottonwood trees the electic company took down near their lines on our property. I sell targets and swedish candles at a farmers market in the town I went to high school. I don't sell much but I have a target set up and encourage all comers to toss the hatchet. With a little coaching, most end up sinking an edge after a few tries and prefer to stop at that point so they have bragging rights. I don't sell much, but it gives me a chance to re-connect with old friends that I haven't seen in many years. I use that afternoon to sharpen chains and do some odds and ends tasks that I never seem to have time for. Kind of a therapy session more for me that to sell anything... LOL Bonus, one afternoon a week off of my regular job...
