I had a guy here in town ask if I wanted some wood. I said always. He said come get what you want. He is clearing a little over 2 acres of pecan trees. This is the first trailer load. Just a few hours this weekend. IMG_20211121_120746131_HDR.jpg

I'm going to get him to stack some longer larger pieces that I will get as time allows.

I'd love to try it in my smoker. TurboDiesel says it's great for that.

It is, it's probably my favorite. To me it's more mellow than hickory and has a bit of "sweetness", and more flavorful than oak. That said, I've never had fruitwood other than wild black cherry...

I've heard it is good firewood and it should be. Congratulations.

I like it as a smoke wood. We dont have any around here so we have to order it in bags for the smoker. Apple smoking wood I have plenty of but not Pecan. Nice score!

One of our hosts from our spring Texas hog hunt was pretty insistent that I bring some pecan wood home with me. He had a pretty fair size pile from a tree that came down at his camp house. I grabbed 4 pieces about 3 ft long and 3-4 inches in diameter. It’s not bad in the smoker, but I sure like apricot better.
I imagine it is probably pretty good heat in a stove, just something that most people don’t have access to in any quantity.
    Nice score

Got a decent stack growing that I need to process. There is plenty of time for that later. Spending the time I have now to get more of the wood to bring back.

That empty spot in the shed is all the space I have under cover to fill back for future seasons. The rest I guess I will stack down the fence. I really hate to do that as I always loose some to rot even with my makeshift top covering. IMG_20211204_170711601.jpg

I like pecan as firewood. Not hard to split, seasons faster than oak, burns with good flame, pretty hot, doesn't last like oak but no big deal here.

A tragedy that I witnessed was a farmer bulldozed and burned a 20 acre pecan orchard and turned it into a cottonfield. The dozing and burning took months, so, he had plenty of time to find somebody to get a bunch of good wood. I did not do firewood at that time.
