Good news! Fires part of the reason we finally left Colorado. I was evacuated 3 times in 9 months and owned one the few homes that did not burn down. I tired quickly of seeing my home on national news for scary reasons! I still get shivers when I see the red flag warnings on the news, or saw a water chopper in the sky!

Almost no fires to speak of this year, I think we've had 3 that were quickly taken care of in under a day. It's been nice, but messing up my camping schedule lol

Absolutely a beautiful weekend. Had a nice ride in the foothills, then today my knee was a bit stronger so I filled the plastic pool and gave both labs a much overdue dog bath. I got soaked in the process but at least I can say I got them really clean. I wanted to do much more, but I tired out fast. Best part was having that pain let up some. Wife will be happy for a few moments now that the dog odor is gone for a while.

Glad to hear it Save

Teresa and I hiked Mt Major today (first hike in 2 years and man am I out of shape in the sense of uphill hiking-I use to do this one like it was nothing). Hurt my knee in the first 1/4 mile when I tripped on some rocky washed out uphill area, but luckily the foot was well planted and no twisting-the knee just took alot of pressure keeping my balance when the other foot slipped; should be only a sprain. Still pushed up the mt but took the longer slightly less steep rte to be safe. About a 3.5 hour trip up and back. Back home, I iced it for 30 minutes and felt good enough to mow the lawn. Will ice it again later.

The view at the top was spectacular and well worth the trip !! Saw an eagle soaring around the top. We really have to get back into this kind of more strenuous activity regularly to be in better shape.

Wow, that is a wonderful hike. I'm lucky to hike to the mailbox! Best to be in shape before heading up a mountain. If you get in trouble up there, you have drawn the short straw! We didn't arrive in the world with a warranty, just a hope, a plan and a prayer for a future.
Glad you had a wonderful time with hour honey. Did you get pictures?

No pics on this one. Mt Major really is a good starter mountain. Its not just a meandering trail and it is steep, long and rocky enough to get and keep the heart going on the way up but not too bad. If it wasnt for the knee Id be 100% at this point and we would have taken the shorter steeper trail. Maybe next time :). Like I said we use to do alot of hiking but not much for the past 2 years. Gotta change that.

The dog loved it too but she was zonked when we got back to the truck :p. She didnt even beg when we stopped for ice cream afterward, no that's a first for that 14 month old pup.

Made the drive to Milwaukee today. 6 hours to get here with Chicago area traffic. Had dinner when I got here and was surprised to see Sam Adams Octoberfest on tap already. I guess fall isn't as far away as I hope it is. I'm trying to figure out where the summer is going. My internal calendar says it should be mid June.

3 weekends until Labor day and 3 weeks after that will be the first day of autumn(9-22-14). :startled::bug::jaw:

Our favorite lake gets closed to boat traffic after Labor day weekend. Hard to believe we only have 3 weekends left. We will be hitting it hard until then!!

    Bah,

What a bunch of wimps. Stove weather approaches and you all become blathering cry babies.

Meanwhile back on the farm, we canned a batch of green beans yesterday after haying the fields (lawns supposedly). Will likely do a batch of refrigerator sour pickles this afternoon. Got to be ready when those Arctic cold fronts hit.

Don't look now but the folks in the Midwest are in for a cold fall etc...

I'm just getting upse to this weather and now it is going to leave. You would think I would know better than to think it should stay warm for a while. Heck, the lawn never turned brown!

It has been plenty warm and humid around here, the heat can stay the humidity can go.

When I go out and hay it is like swimming and the lawn barely gets dry enough to mow.

Well I just finished doing a batch of refrigerator sour pickles. Now I need to order some more dry mustard.
