Never seen a factory turbo truck. A few buddies put aftermarket on them. My 96 dually has the 5 speed trans with the power stroke. That pulls good.
I've only ever seen a few, and I worked at a place that specialized in stuff like that....come to think of it, I think they were all automatics too...
The first truck I ever drove was just like that one....except it just had a regular flatbed and was 454 powered. She was begging for mercy at 60MPH.
Some of my early exposure to diesel pickups was a '97 SRW F350 4x4 with the 7.3PSD and three pedals. Banks power kit, and an exhaust brake. Quite the rig for the times (This would have been about 1998/99).
I drove this home and at 55-60 it was topped out but in reverse it backed up my steep drive at a idle I hav not had time to research yet bit I would not be surprised if it is 4:11 or lower gears JB
Yup, 4:11 or 4:56...I've even seen some 5:13 stuff! Do the math on that gear reduction in low gear/low range!
18MPH in high gear against the rev limiter. Tires will not stop unless something breaks. about 25 if it's 4:10's. Same rules apply.
Works pretty good for tensioning page wire fence too. Just idle until tight and kill it, leave it in gear and start hammering staples.
Whole rig was dammed cheap to make too. You're probably familiar already but for others: 2x4x8' sawed in half, at least six sets of bolts/washers to make a clamp. Wrap'd the wire fencing around one, clamped the boards together, chained to the truck. Twenty years later, if I was still doing this stuff - I'd probably add a battery impact wrench (quick connect! ) and swap out the chain for a good tow strap.
First slabwood delivery today !! Old truck ran really good and it does have 4:56 gears 55mph is the limit JB
