I just got home from installing my sons new to him Advance. One thing I found is it is not an Advance 2. It was made in 2000 so that makes it an Advance 1, correct? Anyways, the install was textbook. We did replace the combustion motor and fan because the old one was a bit noisy. After the install, I set the temp at 70 degrees and fired the stove on room temp and it fired right up within 10 minutes. The room air fan came on as it should after 15 minutes or so and ramped up to the setting we had selected. After a 1/2 hour or so, the room was up to temp. As soon as the stove shut off, the room fan shut off. The only way to get the fan back on was to switch to stove temp. My question is why did it do this? Bad dip switch setting? (If it even had dip switches) Bad control board? On my Accentra, my room fan runs for an hour after the stove shuts off.

Could be a dirty potentiometer….on the room temp side of the scale. Did you clean the ESP as a part of the install? Which fan shuts off, the combustion fan or distribution fan?

Yes, ESP probe was removed and cleaned. The combustion fans runs as it should this is just the room fan. I do not think it's the pot because when the stove is operating, the pot changes the fan speed with no dead spots. It is just when the room temp reaches the set point on the stove, the room fan just shuts off. From what I understand, the ESP controls the room fan based on the temp of the exhaust flow. When the stove heats the room to the setpoint, the auger stops feeding pellets and the fire dies. The room fan should continue to blow until the exhaust flow is cool. At least that is what my '07 Accentra does. Someone told me that they thought the early Harmans didn't do that and my sons is a 2000.

What you’re describing sounds like “fireplace mode” but you can only get that in Stove temp mode with the igniter switch in manual…..

Exactly. Too bad the igniter is in Auto. Could this just be the way an old Harman works? In any case, I'm thinking a new control board would solve the issue?

My son ordered a new board today along with a red wire ESP. Board number 10095886. Same board as mine. That should take care of it.

Did the board solve the issue?

Sorry. Should have updated the post. Yes, problem solved. With the room fan knob turned up to high, the fan comes on slowly and ramps up to full speed as the stove gets hotter. It slowly drops in speed as it cools off. My son is very happy. Apparently the older board is just on/off in Room temp mode.
