Daylight savings time has become my arch nemesis these past few days. I usually get off work and into the wood yard around 4:30. By the time 6 o clock comes around I'm stacking wood in the dead of night. I also haven't been able to get a full load of wood in the truck because its dark before I can get it full. So now I'm stuck inside with no wood to split or stack, and no wood to cut because its too wet to get to any!
So tonight I found a headlight and a stack of batteries. I have tomorrow off for Veteran's Day (bankers hours:D) but I have a new scrounge spot that will probably be too muddy to get to. I think I'll check it out tomorrow but I might have to go dig through the massive and semi rotten logs at the town tree dump.
Struggles of a small firewood business.

I hear ya, I leave for work by 5am and have been getting home 4 or after so the sun is already setting. So anything you want to do is by light or in the dark.

Daylight savings time just needs to go away-it prays on us working folks-makes us burn more utilities, why should we be forced to use more electricity? It’s a long standing enhancement for the power company, it’s harder on the elderly and just plain stupid-It’s original intended purpose was to reward farmers for getting crops in and receive more rest, in reality, it raises our electric bills…It only serves the raping of people on a budget, I know nothing about AZ, but my understanding is they don’t recognize it-who wants to go to work in the dark and get home after dark? It is something that a voice in unison could change, and we should. Rant over.

Daylight savings time sucks for sure. I have been looking at Milwaukee tower lights so I can cut & split in the evenings.

It used to be both AZ and MI. We even voted on keeping standard time when they put it on the ballot. Then the fools forced it on us anyway.

If you get those, let me know how you like them. Need new tools.

I think you will like the lights. I had one for a year or so and ended up buying another one. They do light up the night pretty well. A 5.0 battery will get you about 3 hours on the highest setting. They accept 120v ac as well. If you can set then on something tall, stack of pallets, truck bed, maybe even a stack of wood, they become almost street lightish. Make sure to look around for the best deal. Christmas time is usually the best time to make a purchase. Both of mine came with 1 5.0 battey and light for 199.

Yep. Pretty much gotta take a day off. Also with deer season upon us, I have to keep out of the woods until February.

plenty to get me through but always try to get it done for next year.

DST never had anything to do with farmers. Most farmers use sunrise and sunset time. Farmers continually lobby for discontinuing DST.
It has never proven to save but a negligible amount of energy. In some cases not saving any at all.
Some people are not affected by the shift/change in time, some people are. I really don't want to be on the road with the impaired drivers. There are already enough impaired drivers from both prescribed and unprescribed pharmaceuticals.
Keep it, can it, doesn't matter to me as the change has never affected me in any big way, beyond the time on my truck's clock would be off by an hour for part of the year.

I still got some cutting done this morning.
Not sure what wood is in the first picture. Wasn't real heavy. Couple pieces of red oak in there too.

Got some pine and some white oak in this pile.

Was too muddy this morning to get the truck down to it but I'm heading to the town tree dump to scrounge around for decent wood.

Daylight savings time just ended. We are now on standard time. If daylight savings went away it would still get dark at 5ish in November. I think most people are looking for year round daylight savings because more people can use the daylight in the evening versus in the morning. I am in this camp because making noise at 6PM is more accepted over 6AM.

I usually split and stack using the LED lightbar on my tractor. Lately it's been having problems (short in the wires or water in the thing, I guess) so I have been running a 100' cord from my outdoor wood boiler and using a pair of homemade light towers. I got a pair of RAB X34 LED floodlamps for no cost, and built PVC stands for them. They only use 54 watts but are 6500 lumens, so a pair of them will light up my woodshed to nearly daylight. I'm thinking of mounting a couple permanently so all I need to do is run the cord and plug them in at the woodshed. Not worth running conduit and power for using them a few times each year.

That was my first guess but I've never seen a cherry tree in person.
