Friend whittled me up a blade edge for my box splitter project. Of course it looks strange, it came from my mind 35* leading edge with 45* internals.
Excellent question A total sidetrack and convert the splitter from front pull to rear pull with another set of tires in the front. For that edge tho it will be welded to the main 3/4” box plate. There’s lots and lots of steps
Nice machining Looks like he worked his butt off in a Bridgeport with an angle vise or he’s got a large horizontal mill to do the bull work If I had to guess, that’s made from hot rolled steel, A36 maybe?
You’ll have to guess. I supplied the steel bar from Logan’s Bargain Barn . No idea what it is. I really could use an education on steel. Bridgeport with angle vise. He mentioned writing a computer program that would save him lots of handle cranking. Not sure what that means in the real world, CDC controlled Bridgeport?? Traded a cord of primo firewood for his labor. Half hickory, half my four year seasoned red oak. His wife is happy, she knows more about wood than him. Last year she got ripped off.
Sounds like a swell trade If it was done in a Bridgeport and he mentioned writing a program for it, it was probably a conversational CNC machine. Meaning it’s kind of a hybrid between a manual and a full blown CNC. You can either crank handles or input commands to make it go. There are quite a few Bridgeports out there with various configurations like that. Nice to have a buddy with one in his arsenal

I had come to the conclusion the easiest way for me to do it was buy a used horizontal bandsaw and cut all the separate pieces at home. Bandsaws don’t cut 35* but I figured it’d be easy enough to build a jig in the vise that would allow it. Then grind weld angles and put it all back together. I bought bar stock in various sizes to do just that. I was picking his brain on bandsaws and he suggested he mill the parts. Couple days before he started it occurred to me it should be easier on both of us if he could just mill it in one piece. Out comes the napkin and the rest is history
