I just got hit up if I wanted a supposedly good running MS261 for 200 bucks. Not one of the late models but a few years old. Is that a deal or so-so? Thinking I'd sell one of the MS250s and then have 362C 261 250 And still wanting a top handle just because. (you guys are enablers!) Lenny
I paid $230 for a 260 pro a few years back that was in good shape. I’d take that deal all day as long as the saw runs.
I got it. Cost me 180. He knocked 20 off since I had to drive nearly an hour over. It starts, idles, and runs out clean. I’ll clean it up and see what it’ll do.
Great deal; I have been looking at used ones on fleabay and people want almost a new price. I wish I could pick one up at that price I would be dancing in the street.
Yes, great deal! Use some mayonnaise on it if there's some sap or other Craig that won't simply wash off.
I'm thinking you got a real great deal there! Can't wait to hear how you like it, I love my 026 class saws.
Great grab Lennyzx11 if you hear of another grab it if you went north an hour I gots to check my connections!!
Tuned the carb slightly today on the low side and the bog has disappeared. Though I sharpened the chain 5 licks a tooth last night, I wasn’t impressed and thought the 20” bar .325 may be a bit much after testing. So I took the time today and really hand sharpened it the way you’re supposed to. The saw took off! I buried it in some of the 20” hardwood in the stack and I believe it might have given my 362 18” a run for it’s money. I kinda had in mind of hanging a 16” on the 250, an 18” on this 261, and a 20” on the 362 but I’d have to buy something for all of them then one bit or the other. So we’ll leave it all alone for now. 250 is running a 325 18”, the 261 a 20” 325, and the 362 an 18” 3/8 but I have the 20” 3/8” bar and chain on the wall for it already. Really happy with it but did weigh it and the 362 and they are near the same weight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The 260's tune at a higher top end than some other Stihl saws. If I remember correctly, I think they were the Stihl answer to the high revving Husky's of the day. They cut well when turning fast, I run mine with 16" 3/8 set ups on both. They're excellent saws for bucking 12" & under logs, I use them a lot for limbing as well. In smaller wood I have no doubt it'll run with a stock 362, my 362 wasn't an impressive saw at all till I had huskihl port it. That thing is like a whole new saw now.
That’s a great deal! I’ve been looking for decent used 261 for a long time and have never seen one for less than $400, finally I just got a new one. For reference I sold my 026 for $225 and my 260 for $300, they were cleaner, but probably in similar condition as your 261. I would have no use or need for another 261, but would buy as many as I could for $200!! by the way… YOU SUCK!
