Took the kids out and was surprised with the lack of other kids out. Also seen many lights off and lots of porches with a bowl to help yourself. Definitely not the same as past years, not including last years being canceled.

My parents live in the city and my mom said only 8 kids came by and only 4 house on there street had lights on, crazy! When I was a kid almost every house had lights on and she would get 80-100 kids. Times have really changed

Good luck with the move jtakeman. Glad you are able to get a place you want. Housing up here has gone out of sight in price. Bidding wars going on. Homes on the market 1-4 days unless out of sight priced. Average income and average cost of a home are not matched up. Seems to be that way all over. My niece sold her Texas home for twice what she paid for it 6 years ago.

29* out at 6 this morning. 72* in the house, P43 just humming right along. Guess I'll get the snowblower prepped this week cause even though it's forecasted to be a bit warmer next week, it is New England after all.

Larry, We had to buy a beater(fixer upper) that needed work. Actually got it for less than the asking price. Pretty rare in these times!! But our in was every one else that bid on this were house flippers and the OG owners wanted to sell to a family that planned to actually keep the place. We will have a long way to go to get this house whipped into shape, But we made a big dent in the "to do's" since we bought it June 1st. Full bath remodel and every exterior walls have been knock down-insulated-new drywall installed. We have a good start on the completely new kitchen. All of which have been done DIY by us so far.

We placed bids on houses before we bought this clunker, We were adding 5% to 10% over the asking price and were still getting outbid. I saw some that sold for 20% over listing price.

These days whatever your budget is for a house you actually need to look at houses priced less (some times a lot less) cause if they are decent the bidding/offers will end up close to what you budgeted.

I wish her well. I don't know how handy you are with a hammer or saw, but you have to be handy if you don't want to loose your shirt. I have followed some other home rebuilds on other threads. Fun to watch. Some told horror stories. I hope your horror stories are few. Good luck and stay safe.

I got mine prepped last month but I was thinking I should start it up again this weekend just to make sure it didn't develop gremlins.

I'm pretty handy. Spent 30 some years in facilities maintenance.

So far my only complaints are of people who worked on this place before us!

Pics of the new bath we just finished.

Why someone will go through all the effort to do something, but won't take the time while they're already at it, to do it right the first time, is well beyond my ability to comprehend. Or my willingness to do so. Bit of a pet peev of mine lol

Haven't had a moment since late August with non stop pellet deliveries, museum engine building construction, yard work, and on an on.
Finally a slight break in the action! So I stopped in to say hi!

That looks nice. I especially like the way the switch plate coordinates with the sink and floor tile. Your walls look about the same color as the inside of my front door.

That bath looks really nice. Good place to start. I think people who do things over, often are doing them on a very tight budget so they cut corners wherever they can. The end result is often a nightmare of mixed used wood and out of code wiring and plumbing. Don't let the job kill you. Does your son still live at home and is he able to help you? I know young men his age usually have other priorities.
