During a camping trip with family and friends a little over a few weeks ago we were blessed with above seasonal weather. The nights were frosty but the days were nice. A friend and I took down this standing dead doug fir that was along the road about a 15 minute drive from our campsite. I got to use my new Stihl saw which was fun. We split on site one truck load for camp fires and the one you see in my truck made the trip back to the house an hour away. I went home and dropped the rounds in my driveway and picked up a turkey for the smoker. When our trip was done I ended up with a modest amount of the second truck load as well. It burned great in the fire pit as well as my stove but is coming in at 22%-24% I will leave it for next year. Im thinking of using some of the pitchy wood like fat wood though. Woodchucker this one is pretty straight and was easy to split and smelled great.
Yeah I smoked it on a friends pellet smoker that he travels with. The Turkey was wet brined over night and was a hit. It was the first time Ive used someone elses smoker.
There is so much easy to get doug fir out that way. At an hour away its a bit far for me to want to drive there very often but the weekend camping plans just made sense for me to drive a truck full home. Thats my 20 year old daughter, she drove in from school in Alberta to camp with us which was nice. The husky is my almost 14 year old hiking buddy. The 362 Stihl makes bigger trees so much easier to work on compared to my husqvarna 455 rancher.
Great pooch pics. Makes me miss my old girl. She was the best dog ever but I sure don't miss the hair everywhere!
yup hair everywhere! She sheds in the spring and in the fall. Shes not tufting as much right now as her winter coat sets in but its still a job cleaning it up. Heres a pic of her this spring just before a good brush.
Yeah mine as well. She doesnt bark but cries and howls when we aren't around. Now that she's older she does it less but its pretty loud. I have neighbors dogs around us that bark quite a bit so we all seem to just put up with each others fur babies.
Nice fir scrounge. campinspecter is starting to look again for one to fill the empty spot in the wood shed.
