Yep. It's worked pretty well so far Now with more mods? It would be even less. We have been approached by others with offers of donations. So far, it hasn't been needed. We will be needing to upgrade in the near future. We are growing at a very healthy rate The donations would be in the hands of Scotty Overkill.
I have thought in the past, what if we did it fundraiser style, like PBS and NPR stations do. Only ask for what would be needed, if that is met, accept no more. Target would be actual operating expenses minus whatever the staff would like to donate off the bat.
When Sawhawgz had to have a server upgrade, we did a raffle...... TRX250R180 donated a MS460, I ported it and raffled it off. The funds went to the site owner.
That's something that will likely be brought up in the future. Many have offered and that is very much appreciated. When we upgrade and bring in some new features it may be needed. We really want to keep the forum add free. Scott will be te deciding factor on if donations are needed or not.
I'm spooked of raffles.....from what I read, there are different laws in different states.......just don't want to deal with it. The raffles, without a doubt, are a noble thing to do and I like to donate money to help people, trust me, it ain't about money. Its the legal crap.... Someday we'll try and set up a donation thing, maybe even VERY limited advertising. As I've said all along, I ain't in this to gain a dime......it's not about money, it's about having a good, knowledgeable, family-like forum. Which we've got.
The old lady gave a good suggestion last night. Maybe when the shirts start rolling out, if someone wants to include a few extra bucks with their order, that might be the best way to handle donations.
I agree with you 100% Scotty, however, as Grizz and some others have said, upgrades and other needs will be required in the not too distant future. It's not fair that the founding fathers pay out of pocket anymore. As well as this forum is doing/growing and the desire to keep advertising out we should take care of ourselves 'in-house' as long as we can until we are forced to do to otherwise. Just my 2 cents
MISHMH, I see you've gotten your name changed. Cool, I like it. Now, if you only had the stove.........
I isn't complain'n.... . For the amount of $$ that was required to get off the ground here, it was easily spread amongst us mods and Scotty. I like that the site is staff supported and un-influenced by advertising dollars. Should we need, I think we will certainly turn to member donations before advertising to raise funds.
